What's the OSV Bold?

The "Ocean Survey Vessel, the Bold" helps EPA better protect human health and the environment in the United States. Our scientists must study how human activities impact our environment, even when those activities on land can influence our coastal and ocean environments.

This beautiful ship has been given a second life to help us do just that.

Thanks to the Bold, EPA can study pollution and monitor changes in marine ecosystems, to make better plans about how to protect our environment.

The Bold is the EPA's only ocean and coastal monitoring ship that helps our scientists to sample water, bottom sediment and marine life.

Since it was re-outfitted with high tech science equipment (and a better paint job) after serving the United States Navy, the Bold has brought marine scientists around the United States to study in the Gulf of Mexico, and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
