About Orton

Orton photos are generated by the overlay of two images of the identical scene. When originated by Michael Orton using slide film, one image is sharply focused and over exposed ~2 stops. The other is very out of focus and over exposed by ~1 stop.

This is easy to do digitally in Photoshop, GIMP, or other programs. The overexposeure and blur levels can be easily controlled.

My prefered method is to follow the process detailed in this training video. It uses Photoshop, but GIMP and PSP have been used.

A basic procedure that can be used is show in this article, but you will have better control over the results by following the video. If you use Picasa, see the discussion threads for details.

Posting Rules:
-Remember to only post pictures that have had some level of Orton technique applied.
-No nudity
-Positive attitude in comments, helpful suggestions only.
-Please note the Orton settings used for each of the steps. This will help others learn to emulate what they like.
-Posting limit is 5 per day.

Please use the code below to sign your comments on the photo pages so the photographer knows where their pics were seen.
