About Origami Mitra
Mitra means 'friends' in several Indian languages. And that's what we stand for. Origami Mitra: Friends of and for Origami.
We are a group of Origami addicts, informally grouped, based in India and with centers in five cities: Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Founded by Mrs. Indu Tilak in 1981, our myriad group has blossomed with people of all ages and professions. We all approach this art in a different way: scientific, methodic, purist, artistic we have all these temperaments in our group. Collectively we teach each other techniques and models. Individually we teach ourselves patience. Our meetings are very colorful, what with all the origami paper around, and the wonderful people and books to add shades!
We are very active in spreading a word about origami through school workshops, hospital ward ori-demos, and exhibitions. Twice a year we all go in a cocoon (a camp for your convenience) to refresh our origami skills.
Edit (July 22, 2009): The group is now open to all origami enthusiasts from all over the world. - Himanshu.
