About Ørestad

Ørestad is a planned town between Copenhagen Airport and the City of Copenhagen, and was developed on the basis of an international architectural competition in 1994 which the Finnish ARKKI Aps won. The town provides ample space for new constructions that could not be fitted into the existing quarters of Copenhagen – due to their mere size. The town consists of the areas Ørestad North, Amager Fælled, Ørestad City (master plan by Daniel Libeskind), and the not yet built Ørestad South.

The first building (Ferring Pharmaceuticals) was built in 2001, and three years later the largest shopping mall in Scandinavia (Field's) was finished. Afterwards, the building activity quickly took place. The last brick of Ørestad is expected to be planted in year 2020.
