About Manfrotto 190CX: Operation "Museum"
This group is an online museum or gallery for all the photos in flickr showing the Manfrotto 190 tripod in its various incarnations. It is also a competition... the best photo in each award category will win a brand new 190CX Carbon Fiber tripod - the "latest and greatest" in the 190 family.
F.A.Q.
HOW CAN I ENTER?
Your photographs of 190 tripods can be submitted to the competition through flickr.com - tag your photo "190cxoperationmuseum" and submit it to this group pool - and don't forget to add Manfrotto to your contact list so we can add you back and keep an eye on your photography!
Photos submitted at the first stage can be low resolution copies (but should not be less than 800px longest side), but winning photographers must also be able to provide a high resolution original file or scan.
UNTIL WHEN IS THE COMPETITION OPEN?
The deadline for receiving photographs to Operation Museum via flickr is May 31st, 2008.
WHICH 190 MODELS CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED?
For the purposes of this competition, only photographs of the older, pre-2006 models of 190 tripods will be considered as valid entries to the prize competition in our Museum. A full list of eligible model numbers, both Manfrotto and Bogen equivalents, is shown below.

Ineligible models:

190X (190XPROB, 190XB, etc) and 190PROBWORLDCUP owners, you should be relieved... your tripods are too young to go into a Museum!
HOW WILL THE PHOTOS BE JUDGED?
Photos will be judged against objective and subjective criteria - objectively, the photograph must show prominently a 190 tripod model as its subject, and the 190 model must be among those built between 1984 and 2005 (model list above). All other judgements are of a subjective nature.
The judges will be:
* Francesco Bernardi - Managing Director, Vitec Group Imaging and Staging Division
* Simone Moro - Manfrotto testimonial and world-famous mountaineer
* Marc De Tollenaere - Manfrotto Local Hero and professional photographer
* Leonardo Giusto - Manfrotto Brand Manager
* Stefano Natrella - Manfrotto Product Manager at Bogen Imaging Italy
* Will Holowka - Manfrotto Product Manager at Bogen Imaging USA
* Paolo Speggiorin - Manfrotto Head of Product Design and Mechanical Innovation
Coordinators: Manfrotto Web Team
JUDGES' DECISION
In all cases and for all awards, the judges' decision is final and not open for discussion.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE PHOTOS?
We reserve the right to exhibit the photos on our premises and in Manfrotto-related events, and to publish the winning photographs on the Internet and elsewhere in relation to both the 190CX Operation Museum and the history of the 190 tripod famiy in general.
So why does the 190 need a museum?
Because we're proud of it.
The 190 series has long been our most popular photo camera tripod range. Born in 1984 as a Mini-Pro tripod - considerably lighter and more compact than the average professional tripod of the time - the 190 offered solid support and useful features beyond its diminutive size, and thus became incredibly successful, both as the professionals' travel tripod and the passionate amateur photographer's first investment in "real" photo gear.
It remained largely unchanged until 1996, when it was re-designed and pared down even further in size and weight. The 190NAT version in a green painted finish with extra details like padded leg grips, spiked feet, a carrying strap and stainless steel fittings was an instant hit among wildlife photographers.
In 2000, quick release leg locks were added, making set-up of the 190 easier and faster... and a slew of photographers who had found tripods too awkward and slow to use were converted. 2000 also saw the birth of the PRO series, with the addition of a real innovation - the horizontal centre column adaptor, which allowed for far greater camera positioning flexibility. Again, new friends were made among macro and nature photographers.
2002 saw more design changes and even more useful features added to the range - legs were kept conveniently locked together during carriage, and retractable "all-terrain" spiked feet were introduced to all new models.
In 2004, the split centre column made switching from normal- to ground level shooting a breeze, and the tripod continued to become easier to use in an ever-wider range of situations. 2005 saw further refinements in the "Tracker / View" 190 for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers.
But this was all just a slow build-up for a real revolution. In 2006, 22 years of perfezionamento ("perfecting", as the Italians would say) led to the 190X. Tubes were profiled, thinned and lightened without being weakened; the PRO horizontal adapter became a real beauty to work with; the leg locks and the leg angle button were greatly improved to make light work for busy hands... and the whole tripod was redesigned from the ground up... or is that from the camera down?
