- PLEASE DO NOT POST a "postcard" traditional Japan image (temples, shrines, kimonos, landscapes etc) that has no "new vs old" context
「絵葉書」ちっくな写真は投稿しないでください。神社仏閣、着物、風景など典型的な日本の風物の写真は、「新しいもの対古いもの」というコンテクストがない場合には、削除対象です。

- PLEASE DO NOT POST a straight-forward portrait aimed to show the person's face, not the social context
社会的コンテクストではなくその人物の風貌を写すことを目的とした普通のポートレイトは投稿しないでください。

- PLEASE DO NOT POST a studio portrait that has no social context
社会的コンテクストのないスタジオでのポートレイトは投稿しないでください。

- PLEASE DO NOT POST a staged portrait that is not related to our everyday life (fashion photography etc) unless there's no distinctive social context seen in the picture
はっきりとした社会的コンテクストが写真の中に確認できないような、日常生活と関係のない、自然ではないポートレイト（ファッション写真など）は投稿しないでください。

- PLEASE DO NOT POST two or more very similar images (crop, zoom, color alternation etc)
よく似た複数の写真（トリミングしたり、同じものをズームしたり、色を変えたりしたもの）は投稿しないでください。

- PLEASE DO NOT POST an image of modern international-style architecture unless it's distinctively Only in Japan (and nowhere else)

- PLEASE DO NOT POST an image unrecognisable to others' eyes (too dark, bright or blurred) unless it's distinctively Only in Japan (and nowhere else)
ものすごく暗いとか明るいとかブレ、ボケのために、物体が認識できないような写真は投稿しないでください。。ただし絶対にOnly In Japanのグループに入れるべきと断言できるときは話が別。

There are many "Japan" pools out there already, but this one is dedicated to Japan's achievement of being one of the most unique societies on the planet.

Japan's society has been in the midst of a massive identity crisis for several decades now, and the current result is a society that manages to be simultaneously rigidly traditional and radically modern and consumeristic...or perhaps, simply "radical" in general.

Radical, quirky, avant-garde, eccentric, oddball - whatever you choose to call this special uniqueness of Japan, that's what this group is about. The pictures posted need not be things definitely for sure without question found "only in japan," but they should reflect that certain peculiarity that strikes Westerners about this country.

This is NOT the place to post your photos of Japan's gorgeous shrines, temples, gardens, and landscapes, flowers, festivals, costumes, kimono, etc. The traditional side of Japanese culture is equally fascinating and probably more beautiful, and we all love it. But there are a hundred groups out there dedicated to that kind of thing. **Please post photos of Japan's traditional side ONLY if they are contrasted (in the same photo) with the modern side of Japan.**

Food, fashion, design, Engrish, vegetation, people...the category extends to all realms. Be your own judge. Have fun.

Flickrには既にもうたくさんの「日本（Japan）」関連のグループがあります。このグループで扱う「日本」は、地球上で最もuniqueな社会としての日本です。

日本の社会がものすごいアイデンティティ・クライシスに陥って数十年。現状、かっちり伝統的であると同時に、激しく近代的かつ消費主義的、ということを両立させている社会、という結果になっています……っていうか、単にradicalなのかもしれません、全般的に。

Radical, quirky, avant-garde, eccentric, oddball――使う言葉は何でもいいんですが、日本のこの本当に独自な点を集積することが、このグループの目的です。

このグループにポストする写真については、必ずしも厳密な意味で絶対に「日本だけ（only on japan）」である必要はありませんが、この国で西洋人に衝撃を与えるある種の特別な部分を表したものに限ります。

このグループは、美しい神社仏閣や庭園、風景、花、祭り、衣装や着物などの写真を投稿するところではありません。日本文化の伝統的な側面は、quirkyな部分と同じくらいに魅力的だし、おそらくはそれよりもっと美しいし、私たちはそういったものも大好きなのですが、そういったことを扱うグループは他にたくさんあります。伝統的な側面を撮影したものを投稿する場合は、同じ写真に、モダンな側面が対比されているものだけにしてください。

食べ物、ファッション、デザイン、Engrish、草木や人々……ありとあらゆる事象が対象となるでしょう。何を投稿するか、ご自身で判断してください。楽しんでください。

（訳注：端的にまとめれば、「西洋人が『何これ！』と叫び出しそうになりつつ、ニヤリとする現代日本」という路線ということだと思います。）
