About The One Word Project

The one word project is a photography challenge (similar to 365) that does more then just snapping a photo and then posting it to flickr with a silly quote or the persons name.
The One Word Project challenge is a way for you (the photographer) to take a moment to step back after taking a photo, and define the subject (it does not have to be a person) in only one word that they think describes them. A story or a further description to why the word was chosen is okay but not required for the project.
The catch...(isn't there always a catch?) You can only use one word per photo. This is where the challenge comes in. In our world we are quick to label someone/something because of outer appearance, a smile, or a frown using words like "Happy" or that person is always "angry". This project is meant to stretch your brain, learn words you have never heard of and make a special effort to appreciate someone or to consider a photograph for something unique.
Do you have to know the person closely/sbuject? No! But of course that would make it easy, to do your best friend or child or mom. They are great people to use for the project but I challenge you to to further. You can tell a lot from a person just through a photo, or a 5 minute chat with them. I encourage you to try and define people you might not know so well. They might be surprised that you found a word to describe them that they never even heard of! Or what if the photo is not of a person, what word comes to mind when you snapped the photo or after you uploaded it onto your computer? Pick the first word that comes to mind, but remember it can only be one and you can't use it twice!
How many photos do you have to take? The challenge want's each person participating to try and shoot for 100 photos, 100 words, never used twice! If you are feeling even more daring try for 365 photos (you don't have to do it them each everyday, but it will challenge you even more to reach into your vocabulary and into your heart.
