About One Thing
Deadline shifted again, which is good cause we need more pictures!
Choose 'one thing' that you love, photograph it, and tag it 'onething'. On the 23rd of May 2005 the images will be compiled for inclusion in a limited edition book as a montage of loved things.
All photos must...
1...be tagged "onething".
2...have a creative commons license that allows for the creation of derivative works, (you can set this as you upload your picture, the CC license should be: Attribution-NoDerivs) if we don't have this the photo will not be included in the book. See our step by step guide
3...be uploaded by 23rd May 2005 to be included in the book.
What are the pictures for?
I've been given the opportunity to contribute to a book on ideas; the book will NOT be sold, BUT is a promotional tool for the company I work for in Sydney, Australia.
Rather than doing one thing for the page, I thought it would be a great opportunity to show the strength of online community, in this case a flickr community.
The idea is that this project (will hopefully) generate enough interest that you publish 100's of pictures, the outcome will be a page in this book, that hasn't been created by 1 designer / photographer but 100's of them. The published page will detail the link to the online 'one thing' group, so that your pictures can be viewed individually.
I think this shows how connected we all are (perhaps), that a common interest can make something beautiful and thought provoking. Get people to think a bit!
Why would you do this?
No idea, you may well turn around and say "go to hell". All that would happen is that the page wouldn't have any images, and my idea would fall over, and we miss out.
I'm enthused by online communities that publish and share knowledge on blogs such as boingboing, Slashdot and treehugger to the photo community that's flickr which has inspired groups such as Squared Circle, A day in the life, What's in your bag and so on.
I want to illustrate to the people that I work with as well as the recipients of the book (senior decision makers) that millions of people are empowered by these tools (flickr, movabletype, podcasts etc.) and are creating compelling content.
As content makers we don't have an agenda, or a marketing plan, its just getting the things that we love to do out there for people to enjoy.
Who's do I work for?
The company is called The One Centre, it's a brand, marketing and design company, the website is still in development. Follow this Google link to see more info etc.
