Everyone who hasn't done anything yet or those who want to do another shot, tonight is your night! The perseid meteor showers will be at an apex tonight around midnight!

Either that Gio or go to St. Thomas and shoot it. I would love to shoot a meteor shower as well, but this is way past my bedtime and its a school night.

Raymond 30 min exposure on film would be sweet! The rest of us with digital this is a good little program to use and increment your exposures to 30seconds or a minute or two..

Looks like clouds are rolling in over here :( I've got lot's of work to do tonight so if it's cloudy it would help resisting the urge to go for a drive in the country side! Tripod is already in the car so I'm ready!

Sweet! Thanks for that utility. I have an out-of-date case of Tri-X (B&W) in the freezer so if clear skies (and if the neighbor's dogs are leashed), I will run two or three cams from my backyard tonight. Good luck everyone. This is going to be a fun shoot with or without Don G's grid :)

Yamangurl Bummer, I am about 25 minutes south of the Airport, far enough from the city lights. Peenie walie is our light source out here. At this time, the only thing that might pale the skies is a big ole moon rising at around 11:00pm. Should be trails for tonight and tomorrow... Sooooo, if we don't catch it tonight, den dere is always tomorrow.

This is the night sky at about 11:17pm Tuesday, 08/11/09. Very overcast with a very bright moon. Don't think we'll see Perseid Meteor Shower tonight. But, I'll keep looking. Think I'll just pop off a few 15" exposures every 30 min or so.

the shower was bogus.. i only captured one.. and it was so faint even the sky was more interesting.
However i did see some bright ones, but it was so infrequent up to 3:00
that prediction of 100 per hour was just for hype

That's really cool Kirk!! Night shots are great for learning your camera and learning to see light.
For example notice the curved light is from the street light's reflection on the car.. Also if you look closely you can even see the flickering (pun intended) from the street light giving you another evidence of time passing by. The car essentially dissected the output of that street light where one could even calculate it's refresh rate if we knew how fast the car was going :)
Awesome pics guys!! Stunner I really like the mix of cool flash and warm light!

went out again last night.. Saw two shooting stars and caught none... I did catch the moon rising over Turtle Creek though! Light painted this shot with a small flash giving a few pop's of light here and there @ 1/2 power with a 1/2 CTO gel to match the ambient light..

OK, great project. This is a 30 second exposure with my camera's "starry sky" setting with the camera mounted on my gorillapod, which was on top of my computer monitor. 2 different LED's were used for the lighting. The streaks had to be done after the light wash or else they would be too "washed out".

Charlene: yes, a train on my way home from work. I was in another train on the opposite platform, braced the camera against the window, which is why it's not as sharp as it might have been. I might try again later if time allows. Like your Kingston city view. Where did you take it from?
Anybody know why a lot of stray light in a long exposure city shot gives a brownish cast (I know this is an old photo, please don't tell me off)

Ray, I think it is the streetlights--they don't give off full spectrum light. Try to adjust the white-balance in your camera to the indoor/fluorescent setting. You can also fix the white balance afterwards in an image editing tool by adjusting "levels" and "curves".

Finally got around to doing a long exposure shot, This was 2 seconds @ f22 with a 10mm fisheye. It was difficult to find a smooth piece of road to ride on, plus i had to shut off the engine just before the shot (to reduce cam shake).
