Like many of you, I’ve been touched by the recent events in Japan and wanted to find a productive way to show my support. At times like this, the kindness of the human spirit never ceases to amaze me so I’m approaching you as a friend and encourage you to lend your support to an initiative I’ve established. The objective of the initiative is simple; to recruit as many people as I can to donate $1 each towards the rebuilding of earthquake affected areas in Japan. Sounds simple? It is! The catch is that in pledging your support, I invite you to put a face to your donation and photograph the act of your contribution to show Japan the human face behind your support. The idea is:

1. Photograph yourself and your donation $1 and post it to the one4Japan flickr group to show your pledge of support. Photos can be as creative as you like, take a shot of yourself donating into a collection tin or at your bank, or even in the supermarket and photos can be taken via whatever method you choose (i.e., phone camera, digital camera etc). The photo must show you clearly holding your donation $1, with only one person (i.e., yourself!) visible the shot. Photographs can be posted to the following group on Flickr: www.flickr.com/groups/one4japan/ (If you don’t have a Flickr account, please send me your picture and I’ll upload it for you).

2. Take your $1 and donate it to the Red Cross ‘Japan & Pacific Disaster Appeal 2011’. Donations can be made in one of two ways: over the counter at any Commonwealth Bank branch or via the website at www.redcross.org.au/Donations/onlineDonations.asp;

The initiative will run for 6 months with recognition of the amount donated by the one4Japan group (i.e., number of photos posted to flickr) communicated by formal letter to the Japanese embassy in Melbourne at the end of every month. So I encourage you to be a part of this initiative by donating $1 and posting your photo to the one4Japan group. I also encourage you to enlist as many people as you can to take part too!

Be part of something meaningful and support the one4Japan initiative, for if we each donate $1, think of the possibilities! Every little bit helps and together, we can make a difference.
