Bought this Trip for $10 (Canadian) at a local camera show. It's in perfect condition. About the only "issue" is that it's missing the JCII sticker (and I haven't cleaned off the gum residue from the sticker).

Y'know, this is why I love this group, we are a bunch of good guys and gals fave'ing each other's trip photos. No attitudes necessary.
As much as I like oogling at the shots (all of them, I started this thread, remember ;), I have to agree with the rationale that the box shot is very appropriate for our icon. It's tacky, catchy, a curiosity-magnet, and retro to boot! and I am so glad I have a hand in choosing it.

Owen - SAND will. I got a second from eBay - plan was one for colour film and one for xp2. Light enough to carry two around.
But this newer one is full of sand. Including inside the viewfinder, and instead of the reassuring snick, snick, snick between apertures I get hhrrrrch, hhrrrrch, hhrrrch.
It is currently being dismantled on my desk and I hope to save it!

@I am Chris - that sucks. But still, think of all the ways a modern digicam could die a horrible death and be thankful that a replacement Trip is only £5 on eBay as you pick sand from the mechanism :-D

wmistar - ahah, maybe!
Surprised to see that only a piece of black tape across the top of the two bits of glass that make up the viewfinder. Lots of sand stuck to it, just looks like electical tape, so easy to replace.
Another green bit of tape over a brassy wheel covered in sand too.
I'm begninning to wonder if it is worth the time to strip and clean, or whether I just keep it for spare parts!

Cameron1965, we must be on the same wavelength. I just finished putting lizard skins on my Trip and last week put new seals in it. Welcome to the Trip 35 group and I hope you enjoy your new Trip, it looks very cool. Oh, and, in case you don't know this it's important to keep your lens and selenium battery covered when you're not using the camera as the solar powered selenium cell will burn out if you leave it exposed to the sun all the time. The Olympus cap, which I have, falls off all the time and it's only pure luck that I still have it. A better solution that will really protect your cell is to buy a 43.5mm UV filter and then either spray paint the glass black or (if you don't want to ruin your filter) cut out a piece of black cardboard and make an insert that will fit inside your screw-on filter, this is what I'm going to do.

I put a strip of masking tape around the inside of my lens cap which makes it a nice snug fit. The previous owner had also made a small hole in it and attached it to the body with a piece of string to stop it going walkies when off the camera too.

Tigersight1 and random dave, many thanks for your advice. I love the lizard skin! I can recommend cameraleather.com - very helpful and a nice product range. I was pleased with how easy it was to fit the new leatherette. I took their advice and used the 'wet' method.
Could this be the start of a new trend? I think Trip 35 cameras are certainly becoming cool. These cameras are classy and create quite a bit of interest. Already I have had people comment and ask where I got my camera.
Do you think they'll ever have a cult status, like classic VW's, minis, Fiat 500s and Lambrettas?! Coincidentally, all these were built cheaply, for the people, but with excellent design and a quality in mind.
I love the fact that they don't need batteries, not a computer chip in sight. I'm a bit biased as I still prefer film to digital. I also still have Lps as well as CDs!

Cameron1965. I'm with you on the film issue and, especially with color, I see big differences between film and digital. And I strongly urge you to try Fuji Press 400 in that Trip of yours. It has a couple of things going for it: it's fast and the Trip likes fast film and the combination of that particular film and the Zuiko lens make for exquisitely lovely color tones.
And, in my humble opinion, the Trip 35 has already attained cult status. If you don't belive it have a look at these sites devoted exclusively to the Trip:
olympuszuiko.wordpress.com/olympus-trip-35/
olympus-trip.blogspot.com/ www.kpraslowicz.com/technique/olympus-trip-35-1200th-modi...
Protect your selenium battery! And have fun with the Trip.

I just got my 43.5 mm UV Bower filter in the mail. Very nice, made in Japan and fits the Trip perfectly. But I just read where "I am Chris" wrote in on one of the other topics in this group to say that he found that his UV filter ruined his shots and he wasn't going to use it anymore. I also suspected this might be true, I don't know why, just a gut feeling. So I'm not going to feel bad about spraying it black and just using it to protect the selenium element, but I'll wait until I get a roll develped.
