About Fort Ord for SOLIDERS, CIVILIANS who lived and worked there.

First and foremost, THANK YOU FOR TAKING PICTURES OF FORT ORD!

You don't have to be a veteran or in the Army to join, but you'll be making a lot of folks who were Soldiers or who called this place "home," very happy by adding to this group.

This group was established to preserve pictures of Fort Ord during the time when it was an actual Army military base AND pictures of the facility today, as she sadly sits in decay, awaiting demolition of the remaining structures.

If you want to post pictures of modern day students on the college campus, post them on the other site "FORT ORD" which is happy to allow pictures of flowers, mountain bikes, lizards, birds, hikers and such.

This site is dedicated to preserving the memory of the old military installation, which was our home at one time, for men and women who lived and worked here when Fort Ord was in her "Glory Days."

For me, seeing my old home in such a state of decline is like visiting a dear old friend who is in Hospice (I just went through this, back-to-back with my mom and dad). This is a time when we know there are not many days left, and we wish to relish our thoughts and memories as what remains of Fort Ord, as her relics wait for the demolition crews.

Most cherished are your pictures from any old archives you might have, but also please add any very recent pictures you have captured.

To glorify this remarkable piece of American history, please add pictures of the facility that you might have captured years ago, or yesterday. You'll be contributing to an important archive that hopes to maintain this wonder and treasured piece of California real estate.

For the many thousands and thousands of young men and women who lived here as soldiers, this was their first occasion to visit California and for me, I was a guy who was only 4 days into being a 19 year old boy from the deserts of El Paso, who thought he had died and gone to heaven... the place was and continues to be beautiful, green and situated next to a magnificent ocean... what a special place this is and will always be.

Thank you...
