04 Dec 09 - Featuring Old Commercial Block buildings (pre-1930's) -typically built of brick and mortar construction, with flat roofs, shared walls, and zero setbacks in a downtown street setting. Commercial space on the first floor. The buildings should be the main focus of the photo, not trees, people, machinery, signs, vehicles, or just the storefronts. Please, no houses that have been converted to commercial use.

About Old Commercial Blocks

Old Commercial Block buildings, once common along every Main Street, usually built of brick or masonry, typically with a flat roof, with two to five or six floors. Before the rise of the automobile and the suburban shopping mall, these buildings served the retail and commercial needs of the public. Now, long since outplaced by stores like K Mart, Wal Mart and Target, many have found new uses as offices, specialty retail, loft apartments or brew pubs, etc. Unfortunately, too many of these tucked away gems in many small towns and big cities remain vacant or under-utlilized. Still, their architectural worthiness cannot be ignored.
