The state of Oklahoma is celebrating 100 years of statehood in 2007! This Flickr group has been created to facilitate photosharing and collaboration between Oklahoma learners of all ages during this centennial year and afterward! You do not have to be a teacher or a student in an Oklahoma school to contribute and participate, but a lot of professional development and collaboration is being planned for 2007 for K-12 and university learners. After joining Flickr, click to join this group if you want to contribute photos and participate in the discussion. A group administrator will need to approve your request, so when you ask to join please indicate what your educational involvement and interests are, as well as your location.

For some background, read this PDF proposal about the project. The last week of January 2007, Enid Public Schools is hosting a 3 Days of Discovery professional development workshop series for Oklahoma educators, which we hope will be repeated many times throughout the year for others interested in learning about the Digital Centennial Project and participating. Content shared during this workshop will be made freely available on our wiki site and as free podcasts.

A wikispaces site for the Oklahoma Centennial has also been created to facilitate the sharing of links and resources, and we hope to soon create a blog where we'll post links to student and teacher-created projects and content relating to the Centennial. Note that the Oklahoma Centennial Commission also has a PDF submission form for digital lessons relating to the centennial. This project is intended to complement rather than compete with other centennial initiatives. Because we are using web 2.0 or read/write web resources like a Flickr group, a wiki site, and a blog we hope to facilitate new levels of digital literacy and digital collaboration for Oklahoma learners!

Happy Birthday Oklahoma! Let the digital celebrations, commemorations, and learning opportunities begin!

Please join our Flickr group if you're interested in participating. Geo-tag your images so others can connect the geographic location of images with the pictures. Use this discussion group to share ideas, ask questions, and help others locate resources as well as ideas for making this a great learning year for Oklahoma students and teachers!
