About Obsolescent

Obsolescent: In the process of becoming obsolete.

Can be a person, an object (or collection of objects), a bulding and even an idea which although still functional or useful may be no longer wanted.

Caused by:

1.Changes in fashion (person/object no longer in fashion becoming stylistically defunct ).

2.Technology (either technically superseded or the technological structure that supported it has disappeared).

3. Deliberate (created to last for a short period or to be temporary)

4. Deferred (the object or person has been recycled or re used for a purpose dissimilar to their design or intention).

5. Financial (money has moved elsewhere, the bottom has fallen out of the market, bankrupt).

6.Conceptual or Cultural (we no longer do that anymore or we no longer think like that anymore).

7.Environmental (pollution, climate change makes it no longer possible, the season changes, abandoned, condemned by a road scheme).

Remember obsolescence isn't the same thing as entropy or decay. It is a process of social/physical rejection happening to something which you may recognize. It may be a trend which leads to people/objects/behaviours being overlooked, no longer used or no longer thought. Obsolescent things can sometimes become found works of art because they appear strange to us.
