About The Objective Correlative
"The only way of expressing emotion in the form of art is by finding an "objective correlative"; in other words, a set of objects, a situation, a chain of events which shall be the formula of that particular emotion; such that when the external facts, which must terminate in sensory experience, are given, the emotion is immediately evoked."
~T.S. Eliot, in The Sacred Woods: Essays on Poetry and Criticism
The aim of this group is to collect images that are evocative in their use of objects and situations.
Think:
William Carlos Williams', "No ideas but in things."
Heidegger's distinction between objects and things; essentially, that an object becomes a thing when it is made to stand out against the backdrop of the world in which it exists.
Haiku. A sparse description of a scene that is immediately redolent. A keyhole view into a larger world.
Be kind, leave a few comments, and enjoy one another's work!
