About Olympus Around the World
Olympus Around the World!
(My English is not great, so just remember that when reading. If anything is hard to understand message me)
Why?
One day I was thinking to myself and realised that despite my young age, I had never travelled very far and would not be able to do so for quite a while. The realisation of knowing I won't be able to do much if any travelling might depress/upset some, but got me thinking.
This is my number one reason for starting this group. So for now my goal is to send one of my cameras to different people all around the world, having them take photos with it in a way I never could as a tourist.
So with your help, I'm going to try and have this camera end up on every continent* at least once and, with any luck have it take lots of nice photos.
(*with the exception of Antarctica, I'm not looking for something that extreme despite how awesome it would be)

The Camera
At first I was going to send one of my old Minolta SLR's but I soon realised this would be a bad option for several reasons. After looking my box of old point and shoots I found a suitable camera, the Olympus Trip 100R...

While it's clearly a cheap plastic camera I have several reasons for choosing it...
1) It's the most simple P&S I have. There is less to break and it is much lighter then any other P&S I have. If this is going to travel around the world, shipping needs to be kept low and the weight of the camera is a huge factor.
2) It's the cheapest P&S I have. There is a very good chance it could get lost in the mail, broken or have some other ill-fate. By using a camera that is worth almost nothing I don't lose anything in the end and if someone breaks it, they don't have to feel that bad about it.
3) It's a point and shoot. No matter where it goes the person will be able to take photos with it. You turn it on and press a button...that's it.
4) It's a 35mm P&S. All you need are two batteries and some film. The requirements to shoot with this camera are almost nothing and can be found anywhere.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using the camera
The Olympus Trip 100R has two settings, flash and no flash. The camera works best when loaded with 200-400iso film, but I imagine 800 would work okay too.
That's about it. If you can't figure this camera out then this may not be the group for you...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Final Word
At this point your either confused, don't care or want to join up. I might be crazy for trying this but it's worth the attempt in my opinion.
There are bound to be hitches and problems along the way that can not be foreseen, but with some patience everything will work out with a little luck.
So if you can, I hope you'll be able to help out with my endeavour.
