About NZHPT Images ProjectSeeking New Zealand’s registered historic places - post your favourite photos to the NZHPT Images Project flickr pool. The NZHPT wants current and future generations of New Zealanders to experience and enjoy the sense of place, identity and belonging that our unique heritage offers. The NZHPT wants an image for every entry on its online Register of New Zealand’s historic places. Rarangi Taonga: the Register of Historic Places, Historic Areas, Wahi Tapu and Wahi Tapu Areas is the national schedule of New Zealand's treasured heritage places. Compiled by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust Pouhere Taonga, the Register has over 5000 historic places from all around New Zealand, but only around 60% of all registered places have an image. Registered historic places vary greatly from civic and commercial buildings to woolsheds, farm buildings, archaeological sites, houses, bridges and lighthouses and so on. Pictures on the Register Online help the public have a greater appreciation for these places. As examples, here is an entry without an image - Gladstone Board of Works Building and here is an entry with an image - Ford Motor Company Workshop. Big difference, isn't it? Contributing to our group NZHPT will ask for certain places or types of building to be photographed, such as churches or bridges, or for a geographical region, such as Auckland or Otago. Please supply a name or location with an image so it can be matched up with the right Register entry on the Register Online. All images will be moderated and approved before they enter the pool. Feel free to comment in the group discussions. Images should not have people in them if at all possible and should only be taken of places that can be photographed publicly – please respect other’s privacy by not taking photos of private residences or entering onto property. What places need images? The Register is online and you can see which places do not have images by searching for them. You could try searching where you live and see what places in your location do not have an image. A list will also be supplied of the places in an area where NZHPT would like images to be taken. Using your images You must hold the copyright for any image you offer to us. If NZHPT want to use one of your images, you will be contacted directly to ask your permission. You will be able to reserve all rights to your image; your photograph will be credited and copyrighted to you, however the NZHPT is not in a position to offer payment for use of the images. www.historic.org.nz |
