About New Zealand Geographic
The New Zealand Geographic Flickr Group is the ultimate training ground for aspiring photographers, stemming from New Zealand Geographic magazine — see www.nzgeographic.co.nz. We invite you to post your photographs of New Zealand subjects — our culture as well as our wildlife and landscapes. Images must be taken in New Zealand territory, including Antarctica and dependencies in the Pacific and we welcome both professional and amateur photographers.
Submitting images to this group does not surrender copyright in any form to New Zealand Geographic magazine — we are here to support and enhance the practice of photography in New Zealand, not steal your work. If an image is chosen from the group for publication (three are chosen every two months) you will be contacted for permission, a brief interview and high resolution files (including the RAW file). An image from the group published in the Viewfinder section is rewarded with an editorial fee of NZ$200.
Please include geotags, or simply go to "Organise & Create" in the Flickr menu and hit "Your Map" to drag images from your photostream onto the correct location.
Every week the editor or art director of New Zealand Geographic magazine will pick a photo of the week from new frames uploaded to appear in a separate thread and on the group homepage. Three photos will be selected every two months for publication in the Viewfinder section of New Zealand Geographic magazine at full editorial rates, to be seen by nearly a quarter million readers.
Member’s can also pick their favourites to be considered for publication.
Winners under 20 years of age will be considered for the Young Guns mentoring programme which puts an aspiring young photographer alongside a Geographic pro on a real assignment; to watch, to learn and to follow in their footsteps. Photographers are also encouraged enter into the New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year competition 2011 www.nzgeographic.co.nz/photocomp which is free to enter and touts $7000 in cash prizes.

A GROUP INVITATION can be given out by members to photographers of New Zealand subjects who are not in the group. Paste the code below into the comments field of a non-member’s photograph:

MEMBER'S PICKS can be given out by members to photographers inside the group and will be considered by editors for publication. When your image has accrued three or more Member's Picks, post it into the Member's Pick thread. Paste the code below into the comments field of a member’s photograph to nominate it:

The EDITOR'S PHOTO OF THE WEEK award is only given out by a Geographic editor each week, selected from new images posted.
The EDITOR'S SELECTION is the ultimate recognition of the group, the actual publication of the photo in the coveted Viewfinder department of New Zealand Geographic, published once every two months and selected from Photo of the Week winners and Member's Picks. The published member will receive an editorial fee and a complimentary copy of the magazine.
