IMPORTANT: BLOGS Catalogue
|
Hey, everyone. A printable PDF catalogue of the exhibition is in the works. In it will be a photo from each active contributor to the exhibit along with infomation about each photographer. I want to be finished with its design by December 16th (the date of closing party), so, in order to do this I will need some information from all of you.
-----
Three works with the following info:
Title, Date
Photographer's Name
Artist Statement (Maximum 3 sentences)
Biography:
· Country of origin
· Education
· Background: personal, work (5 sentences)
· Solo Exhibitions (5 max)
· Group Shows (5 max)
· Collections (5 max)
-----
Post all of the answers to the above information in this thread as a comment
If your first language is not English, feel free to write it in your native tongue. We'll translate it into English.
Link to the three photos.
· Just a text link; not the thumbnail, small version, etc.. Of the three you submit, one will be chosen by a fancy photograph selection committee from outerspace.
If you do not have any exhibition history, do not worry. Once all of your information is in, we will decide whether or not it will be included based on how many people actually have an exhibition history. Everything else is straight-forward. But, if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
23:59 (11:59PM) GMT
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD, 2005
If your information is not submitted by that date, you will not be in the book.

Artist Statement:
I love the city that I have photographed since I was a youth, and I am a street photographer at heart. I have used rangefinders and SLRs, but now I utilize mostly the 8mp Konica Minolta A2 digicam. My major photo work is both a conscious and subconcious gestalt process with the world of New York City life, functions, and forms, that only begins with the taken image, yet culminates via the digital darkroom with the presented one.
Biography:
· Country of origin:
United States
· Education:
Hunter College Graduate School of Urban Planning and Public Policy
· Background: (personal, work)
I am a lifelong New Yorker who works professionally to enable affordable housing opportunities in many working class neighborhoods like the one I grew up in Brooklyn. In addition to promoting amateur photography through Flushing Camera Club and my Housing agency photo club, I enjoy sharing my photo work with an international audience online via Flickr that helps me to keep pace with what the world is doing with images. The NYC Exposition blog and East Harlem/El Barrio group have given me new opportunity to participate at the grassroots level with other Flickr photographers based in New York and the wider Hispanic community in a unique way, through digital slides.

docman - the show is fluid. we're free to interchange images during the show's run (what other kind of exhibition allows that?!). here, I suggest that you select 3 representative images. if one or more has not yet been showcased in the exhibit then you should replace one or more that have.

PHOTOGRAPHER'S NAME:
Eliud Martinez (DeLares)
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Eliud Martinez is an emerging, self taught artist, influenced by Latin American culture, family life, an intense love of music, spirituality, literature and philosophy. Much of his story-telling imagery is transformational and meditative in ways that, among others, reference Sebastiao Salgado’s artistic vision, Pablo Neruda’s poetry and Raymond Carver’s short stories. Martinez notes that his photo images are biographical “points of attention" that "map" aspects of his human aware nesses and also reflect archetypal unconscious desires and impulses.
Ansel Adams had it right when he said: “We don`t make a photograph just with a camera; we bring to the act of photography all the books we have read, the movies we have seen, the music we have heard, the people we have loved.”
BIOGRAPHY:
Born in the mountain town of Lares, Puerto Rico, he lived there intermittently. He was mostly raised between the (US) American Midwest and New York City. An amateur photographer since adolescence, he is relatively “late blooming” in showing his art in public.
EDUCATION:
New York University, BA (Psychology)
Columbia University, MSSW (Clinical Social Work)
City University of New York, P. D. Ed. (Education)
BACKGROUND:
Upon graduating from high school in NYC, he apprenticed in the office of the internationally renown industrial designer, Raymond Loewy. Martinez eventually specialized in planning and designing high-end retail stores and corporate offices. In the early 70s, he briefly apprenticed in the, then nascent, Downtown Community Television Center founded by Jon Alpert. Martinez subsequently became an educator and psychotherapist and is currently practicing in NYC. For many years he had been a clinical supervisor of NYC public school social workers and, for a time, was an adjunct professor at the Fordham University School of Social Service.

Photographer's Name:
Steve Bailey
Artist Statement:
I have always loved photography and have recently turned much of my attention towards it. I adore being able to capture an image, a moment, and to be able to share this with others. I particularly enjoy trying to find an unusual perspective or way of looking at the subject.
For me the reaction of those viewing the images is the most enjoyable part of the photographic process.
Biography:
· Country of origin - Born in 1964 in Portsmouth, UK - now living in Sheet, near Petersfield, UK.
· Background: Until 2005 Steve Bailey had worked all his life behind a desk running company pension schemes. In 2005 he made a life changing decision, following inspiration and encouragement from those around him, and has now set himself up as a photographer.
He has had a love of photography from a very early age and is now, for the first time actually enjoying his work.

Three works:
1 signboard,
may 2005
www.flickr.com/photos/docman/13282499/
I chose this image because of the stories, both in words and in pictures that accompany it on flickr. It is the starting point for a “walk” through time (leading you through 35 years of history) and space (exploring the detailed qualities and beauty of this old piece of iron. This way of exhibiting is totally new and could not exist outside of the innovations that flickr has to offer!
2 under the ice

Architecture, nature and abstracts are my fascinations today and even more so if combinations of the above can be made. I’ve taken pictures my whole life, always an avid amateur who secretly thought his work was worth to be seen by more than family and friends. That used to happen sometimes but infinitely more so since I discovered flickr.
Biography:

Teacher’s certificate

Film was for years my profession but photography was always my passion, as it was my mother's and grandfather's before me. (I have posted a few of their images here as well.)
A single guy until I was way into my thirties I traveled a lot, laughed a lot, drank a lot and went through many an adventure. Being a husband and father since then brought different but no less intensive adventures. Humor still abounds, although I must say this cannot be said for the booze...
Photography links both periods of my life, as evidenced here on Flickr.

I am a keen observer of life, soaking it all up like a sponge as I go. I am hopeful that, through photography, I will touch lives and help the world in some small way. I wish to work as a photographer one day as it is my greatest passion.
Biography:
· United States
· Northeastern University, major in English but now would like to finish my degree in photography and film.
· Background: personal, work
I am from Boston, Massachusetts but have lived in Brooklyn, New York for over two years with my boyfriend and our four cats. Helping people and animals in any way I can has always been my goal in life. This is one of the reasons my path led me into photography, but most especially, street photography. I do yoga and practice meditation which makes me a much more centered person than I would be. I am a true homebody in every sense of the word and my favorite thing to do is spend time with my family and I look forward to the day when I can raise my own children.

Artist Statement (Maximum 3 sentences)
I like my photographs to be a story, a snippet of life in the city, mostly New York City. If I can get humor, or irony or both into that story, I’m pleased. Candid or collaborative (sometimes, if I’m lucky or persistant - first candid and then a collaborative photograph of the subject) photos are my favorite to take and rarely a beautiful postcard photo of landscape or architecture will “happen” – but I prefer people in my pictures.
Biography:
• Country of origin – U.S.A. (Born in Brooklyn, grew up on Long Island, lived upstate NY, Michigan and Rochester, NY, before coming back to NYC)
• Education – Cornell University in Ithaca, grad school in Michigan
• Background: I’m a research microbiologist by profession but now work as a research administrator in NYC, live in a suburb, tho – Westchester County. I’ve been taking pictures since I was a child with a brownie camera – I think my pictures at the Bronx Zoo when I was about 8 years old, got me hooked.

Artist's Statment:
I would sacrifice everything I have or at least think I have just for that moment. There is nothing more pure than that moment where my mind has left my body and has become only an eye. With my camera as my vail I walk the earth boundlessly with an unatural courage. At that momnent, when I hold my breath right before the capture, my heart breaks in two. Sometimes youre images are so painful so beautiful that it breaks your heart. Its a passion, a love greater than words can explain. So you have to see it, your vision, my vision, and through the photograph we'll tell our stories.
OR(Fine then)
With my camera as my vail I walk the earth boundlessly with an unatural courage. At that momnent, when I hold my breath right before the capture my heart breaks in two and bleeds images of both joy and pain...beauty. So you have to see it, your vision, my vision, and through the photograph we'll tell our stories.
Thank for this.

The essence of my work is in the rendering of everyday situations to which the fantastic can be attributed, the surreal imagined, and the very real evoked.
I harvest images, the raw materials, by appropriating the street photographer, mise-en-scene and cinema verité traditions.
In these "image harvests" I work digitally because this mutability subverts photography's traditional aesthetic - what once happened to be representational becomes a truly representational form.

What you choose to photograph, is what you choose to talk about. That’s how I see. Images are a language that everybody can read. For me the social contents are important, so I photograph them. It’s my way to talk about, and to call people to think about. Sometimes I also like to talk about self knowledge, inner experiences, to act as part of a linked world, as I see and feel the world.

While I have been fascinated with photography for as long as I can recall, it is only with the advent of digital photography that I have begun to more seriously pursue this visual art form. My approach to photography therefore currently involves quite a bit of (mostly mood-based) experimentation in an ongoing effort to create meaningful and thought-provoking images. I am thereby particularly interested in embracing and utilizing technological limitations that photographic equipment may present as an important part of the final image.
