Hi, I've just joined this inspired group. Glad to find out that at least 99 other people in the world take pictures of other peoples cats. I do it in secret of course as I don't want my cats to find out. I would be in major trouble if they ever found out. Happy to be the 100th member. Do I get a badge?
♥ shhexy corin ♥ 13 years ago
You do, but it's made with someone else's cat's poo.
admin
dr_loplop 13 years ago
Don't get his hopes up, corin. Our reward at somebody else's cat is the knowledge that, through our actions, order is gradually being restored to the cosmos.

Welcome member 100! Things move fast in the world of other people's cats. To think it was barely a week ago that we celebrated our first century of somebody else's cat photos, and just over a fortnight since the group was founded!

I must say that I'm overwhelmed by the progress we have made, all thanks to you, our wonderful members. Just to bring you up to date, of the 343,794 photos tagged with "cat", only 555 are tagged "my cat" versus 286 "not my cat". As you can see, we've already made considerable headway. Our next target is to surpass the number of "my cat" tags by the end of April.

So spread the word, invite your friends, pester other people's cats and -- above all -- have fun!

Well done troops, well done to one and all.

with four days to go until the end of the month...

I've been really nice to everybody and left lots of comments in the hope that they have some other other people's cat photos stashed away somewhere.

Also one or two failed solicitation attempts...
Flame Lily 13 years ago
I would very much like to help but, unfortunately, after flicking through many of my pictures, I find that can't possibly submit them. Because although many are not my cat/s in the strictest sense of the words, they are very much so in my heart. Such an ethical conundrum... Sorry, I can't betray them. I'll have to email friends to see if they can help...
admin
dr_loplop 13 years ago
Oh, that's a shame. Perhaps you should consult bootsartemis, one of our wonderful admins, who is an expert in all matters ethical and philosophical.

I'm sure that with boots' help we can find some way of having our cat and eating it (pardon the idiom).
WaterWindStars Posted 13 years ago. Edited by WaterWindStars (member) 13 years ago
eotb, you see, it's like this. The strictest sense of the words lacks, how shall I say, grace, compassion, empathic vibrational quiddity with the universal flickrhood of love for all creatures great and small. Do we, eotb, possess those we love as if they were pancakes? No, cats are not pancakes, my dear, neither your cats nor my cats nor somebody else's cats. All cats wander freely through the capillaries and highways and byways of our heartstrings, their coming and going like the wings of dawn playing melodies like dewdrops on the golden aolian harp of morning, yours, ours, why there is no edge, no border, no customs agent to pronounce whose cat is whose, why, the mere pronominal possessive adjective "MY mere cat" cannot approach, cannot express, cannot utter the utopian profundity, nay, the aesopian urgency, nay, the floral moral imperative, that this group absolutely must WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN! Submit those pics NOW, eotb.

Flame Lily Posted 13 years ago. Edited by Flame Lily (member) 13 years ago
I was about to do it - came so close - but the sense of betrayal weighed heavy in my heart. Despite recognising the urgency and need to find a way of 'having our cat and eating it' I still feel that semantics can't overrule the truth that, in my heart, there are some cats out there that are not mine, but nevertheless still mine. This is a precious instinct, and one that guided me around the rescue center when I found my two.

Incidentally, I have been tested on 'eating cat's' before as well - especially when confronted with the undeniable cuteness of my own two - so cute I just want to eat them up - but to date have managed to restrain myself. It helps that I am vegetarian.

Digressions aside (what are digressions, if not asides?) I feel that I could only resort to such desperate measures of 'dis-owning' those cats that are mine but not mine at a time of utter crisis. So do keep those tallies coming in.

I am glad to report however that, with a sense of portent doom looming over my head, I stepped out the house this morning and stalked the neighbour's cat in my slippers and came up with one more for the pool. This cat is strictly 'not my cat' and I feel very comfortable saying that - not least because he terrorises my own.

But he is sweet isn't he.... maybe he could be my cat too...and he has been named by us...hmmmm.... no, no.... enough... he's not my cat and you can see him here.

You have turned my world upside down!

"You are odd, Nancy Squacco," the young man said,
"And your hair has become very shiny;
And yet you incessantly stand on your head--
Do you think that's what made you so tiny?"

"In my youth," Nancy Squacco hiccupped all in fun,
"I feared it might injure the brain;
But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,
Why, I do it again and again."
admin
dr_loplop 13 years ago
For some reason your rhyme makes me think of eels, bootsartemis. Anyway, time to turn my screen around again.

How about .squally? (I always did like the dot). I would suggest "squally showers", but it sounds too much like a character from Captain Pugwash (or am I thinking of James Bond?)
squacco 13 years ago
Haha bootsartemis, that sounds pretty accurate.

I'm all confused about my screen name, I just don't know who I am anymore. Who AM I?

Ah, a topic for the agenda! We shall take this up for discution in the DISCUSS group so join up, squawk, don't miss the fun when we DISCUSS discuss your identity. We'll do a complete makeover too... we may end up putting a rat in your hair, they're really cute. And speaking of dots, I think we should have a Polka Party to celebrate Somebody Else's Cat's coming Victory at C is for Cat.

Eels! Oh loplop, I hope you are peeking in at HaggisVitae's Lemur Godsmith's In the Company of Eels. As we say on this side of the pond, "Y'all drop in sometime!"

wow, I always had the most respect for Latin, and I was always lucky not to have to learn German as a foreign language, but I am sure, Latin is quite a bit more difficult ..

btw, adjectives in German are always written with Small letters (at least with Old spelling, nobody [dr_loplop] knows what is Correct right now ..)

You're quite correct, of course. I was going on a hybrid frolic of my own (I knew I should have used Babelfish...)

Latin, on the other hand, is not that difficult so long as you don't get too worried about the whole conjugation thing. And stealing from Horace. And making up words you don't know.
