My fellow somebody else's cat fans will be pleased to hear that, after just three days in existence, our group is already in the top ten of the 3944 groups found by a search for "cat". Goodness knows how flickr decides which group is the cattiest, but with any luck it means we'll get loads of new members and become the biggest cat group... EVER!

Just now, I was musing about the great potential of "somebody else's cat" and decided to do some research. Did you know it is estimated that there are 400 million domestic cats in the world? Compared to a human population of 6,507,469,294, that's one cat for every sixteen and a quarter people.

This means that for every person who owns a cat, there are 6,507,469,293 people whose cat it is not. Taken globally, this gives us a total of 2,602,987,717,200,000,000 somebody else's cats, or over two and a half million trillion! (That's not even accounting for their nine lives...)

So keep up the good work, cat-snappers -- there's no shortage of not my cat action out there!

The world population just grew by 5668 while I was writing that post, so now there are even more.

But when working out the correct ratio, you need to take into account the global moggy population, which grew by 48921, in the three hours since your post, but only 9738 during the period you were writing your post. So, I'm afraid you'll need to revisit your figures two-fold (and that's not counting the additions that have been added to the world people-cat populations since I started writing this post).

Oh, right. That makes 2,602,991,473,052,344,893.

We've been caught catnapping.

But you managed to nip it in the bud* with your extraordinarily quick calculation of 2,602,991,473,052,344,893. I'm very impressed.

Oh, hang on a minute, is that a full three hours later?

uh togr, that was your chance to say "Much obliged." except... no, not here, over there. Sorry. And it's already been said there. Many times. Yay!

We're now number 5 of 3982 groups that mention cat.

Tonkinese cats is number 1.

What's a Tonkinese cat?
WaterWindStars Posted 13 years ago. Edited by WaterWindStars (member) 13 years ago
It is paradoxical that tonkinese cats are number 1 since tonkinese cats are never found in the singular. They herd and they especially like to herd in schools paddling obligingly in the gulf of tonkin.

I've heard of them.

I've herded them.

Sorry I missed this earlier. Much obliged, you say? Is that obligatory? What's "here" and what's "over there"? Where are you? Where am I? And wherefore? Catalepsis engulfs me. Catharsis beackons.
