About North Vancouver THEN & NOW Digital Photo Contest

Grab your camera, head out to North Vancouver, and discover where the past meets the present! Create your own ‘then and now’ of North Vancouver places that have changed over time. This is your chance to WIN A NEW DIGITAL CAMERA!!

The North Vancouver Museum and Archives (NVMA) is pleased to announce the North Vancouver THEN & NOW Digital Photo Contest. Organized as part of the exhibit North Vancouver THEN & NOW: From Lonsdale Avenue to Deep Cove and the companion book “Time Travel in North Vancouver: A Peek into the Past”, written by North Vancouverite Sharon J. Proctor, this contest lets you create your own photographic statements about North Vancouver and have them posted on Flickr, the world’s largest photo sharing website.


Here’s how you can participate!

Find a historic or vintage photograph that’s meaningful to you! You can use a family photograph or search the NVMA’s Archives database for historic photographs and ask an archivist to copy or e-mail the images for you (contact the Archives by e-mail at ided@dnv.org or by phone at 604-990-3700 ext. 8012). Once you’ve found a photograph, there are three ways you can participate:

OPTION ONE: With an historic image as a reference point, take a photograph of the same site. Upload both images onto the Flickr group together (placed on top of each other as one file) or separately.

OPTION TWO: Take an historic image (or a copy) with you, and photograph it in front of the property or historic site as it exists today. Don’t be worried about getting fingers and thumbs into the photograph. That just adds to the fun!

OPTION THREE: Using a program like PhotoShop, place the historic photograph over top of a contemporary photograph of the same site.

Upload your images onto the North Vancouver THEN & NOW Flickr group.
Be sure to include as much information as you can, including addresses, dates, names, and most importantly, any stories behind the photographs.

Prizes
Prizes for the best photos include a NEW CAMERA (estimated value of $500), a copy of “Time Travel in North Vancouver: A Peek into the Past” by Sharon J. Proctor, membership to the NVMA, and admission to a variety of local attractions.

Contest closes 15 December 2010.
