About Northern Suburbs (UK)

The suburbs of the North characterise the landscape around our cities and towns. They vary in design and structure but have all shaped the way in which our urban areas have developed.

The purpose of this group is to show how our suburbs have grown and how they are changing as the North becomes a prosperous place.

=======================
What do I mean by suburbs?
=======================
Well its simple. Anywhere outside of the CBD! Inner City areas might not be classed as a suburb but in a way they are, and it is here where change is more prominant as old industrial/residential properties which were once derelict are now being gentrified and used for other purposes.

===================================
Which places in the North can be uploaded?
===================================
The North for many can be determined as being anywhere North of Crewe and the Humber. So the county coundaries of South Cheshire, through High Peak, South Yorkshire to the Humber sounds about right to me. if you wish to discuss what is North and Waht isn't, there is a very interesting thread on the "Its Grim up North" Group homepage.

=====================================
How is the North meant to be imaged on here?
=====================================
I would like positive views of the North to be airred on here, as we are focusing on the 'burbs, this should't be a hard thing to do. The inner city areas (as stated) are allowed on here and if there are scenes of dereliction, please upload them! They might be negative but its important to document streets which will one day no longer be around. The great photographers like Harry Ainscough and Hardman set the standard for things like this and I hope that it can continue here!

=================================
Are there limits to how much I can upload?
=================================
At the moment no. I want this to be a valueable and useful resource for people to enjoy so you can upload how many or how few you like. However, there are a few catagories which i would like you all to stick to....

--> Streetscenes (roads in general or buildings lining them)
--> Changes of land use
--> Redevelopment in the suburbs and inner city areas
--> Transport
--> Businesses (Afterall, where would the suburbs be without the corner shop or the suburban shopping districts (e.g Cheetham Hill or County Road in Walton)
--> Suburban Life (Gala's or Festivals?)
--> Urban Rural Fringe (where city meets country)

Images of people have to be justified. Have they contributed to their particular suburb?

Just a final word
=============
Enjoy! hopefully, this will go in the direction of being a valuable document of modern day suburbia. Get out there and photograph YOUR neighbourhood(s). you never know when they will be gone.
