About North American T-28 TrojanHistory of the T-28 Trojan: The North American T-28 was a military trainer used by the US Navy and Air Force beginning in the 50s, to replace the Navy and Air Force's SNJ's and T-6's. On September 24, 1949 the first prototype, the XT-28 took to the skies. From 1950 to 1957 a total of 1,948 T-28s were built. Some 21 countries as well as the United States Marines and Coast Guard, operated the T-28. Some of those nations used them not as trainers but as a counter insurgency and close-support aircraft. The US military operated the T-28 Trojan until 1984 where they were fully replaced by the T-34 turboprop trainer. Today more the 150 T-28 are still airworthy as private aircraft. |
