About Non-Places (curated)

This is a curated group inspired by the concept of 'non-places' as defined by the French anthropologist Marc Augé in his book 'Non-Places: Introduction to an Anthropology of Supermodernity'.
“Marc Augé coined the phrase 'non-place' to refer to places of transience that do not hold enough significance to be regarded as 'places'.” (Wikipedia)

Photography
First and foremost, this group is about interesting photography on the subject of so called "non-places".
Examples of Non-Places
Transient places: highways, public transport, airports, public waiting rooms, lounges, lobby's, parking lots, the subway, train and bus stations, commuters, traffic, etcetera.
Commercial spaces: big supermarkets, malls, international chain stores and restaurants, new housing estates, motels, chain hotels, and billboards.
Commodified spaces: spaces dedicated to leisure, tourism and commerce, theme parks, trade shows.
Spaces dedicated to communication: phone boots, spaces with public computers, convention centers, meeting rooms.
Marc Augé's notion of non-places is not to be confused with abandoned urban spaces or 'Nowhere Places' - there are other groups for that.
