By sharing your photo with the Impressions Gallery Bradford Big Picture Hunt group on Flickr you agree to grant to Impressions Gallery, free of charge, permission to use your photo (including modifying and adapting it for operational and editorial reasons) on www.impressions-gallery.com and in the Telegraph and Argus newspaper.

Copyright in your photo will remain with you and this permission is not exclusive, so you can continue to use it in any way including allowing others to use it.

Points for only requesting rights they need. Bonus points for clear English.

Only a small competition but the Cat Protection Photographic Competition
www.cats.org.uk/newsandevents/photo_competition.asp
has a clear and admirable statement:-
The copyright issue- The major factor is that you will always own the rights to your photographs. The declarations you sign on the form give CP the rights to use them to either promote the work of the charity or to fundraise. The two declarations are separate to give you the opportunity to agree to one, both or neither. The agreement allows us to use the images without paying you, but we will not own them nor sell them on. You are free to use your photographs as well. If you don't want to give your agreement to future use of images and just want to enter the competition you can do this. Every year the fact that we have our own photo library saves the charity a huge amount of money

Google is running a photography contest for students to submit images to be used as an iGoogle theme.
www.google.com/intl/en/landing/photographyprize/howto.html

They recently re-worded their Terms and Conditions to clarify that the rights granted are only for the iGoogle product

On May 16th 2009, we made an update to the Terms & Conditions for the contest, based on feedback we got about Section 13 entitled 'Intellectual Property Rights'. We revised this in favour of entrants, to clarify that we will use the photographs in the entry only for the iGoogle product and our marketing of it. This was always our intention, but hopefully the new wording makes it crystal clear. We have notified everybody who had entered the contest under the old T&Cs of this change.

Interesting wording... I think it was Martin Parr's decision to walk away from the competition that prompted this response. They knew exactly what the original wording gave them. I am sick to death of google hoovering up unprotected rights or blatantly stealing them when they feel like it...

Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk - 2009

Here's a nice clean set of T&C's, covers their requirements and doesn't just claw away your rights.
