About Nomadic Lifestyles

PhotoS of the week!
This week, admin has chosen two photos nomad children on namtso, tibet by flickr member romana chapman

and
Three little magi by flickr member Melville B.

These two photos show very different landscapes, and very different people, but the vastness of the landscape and the independent faces of the children are somehow very similar.

What this group is:
A place to assemble photographs of nomads, their lifestyles, their environments.

What this groups is NOT:
A group for photos of your trips, from your traveling lifestyle -- not even if you have been traveling for so long that you feel like a 'nomad.'
Mobile peoples, pastoralists, transhumants? What constitutes a nomadic lifestyle?
I am not an expert on nomads. I will put forth a definition here, but this definition is certainly open to modifications if any are proposed -- another reason for the existence of this group could be to discuss such gnarly, but interesting, issues.
Very briefly, one could say that nomads are people with an impermanent residence who move their household regularly, often seasonally, either to find new pasture for their animals, or in search of wild game or edible plants. You'll notice that this definition includes hunter-gatherers as well as pastoralist nomads.
One of the main reasons for this group is that I really want to learn about nomadic groups outside of those that I already know about, and that I love seeing other people's photographs of nomads.
Hopefully, discussions will also follow -- be they about nomads' interactions with the environment, or about the erosion of nomadic lifestyles, or more tangible matters like marriage ceremonies among different nomads...
RULES:
1. Follow the Flickr Community Guidelines (which you should do all the time, anyway).
2. Administrators reserve the right to remove photos that they feel don't belong. If you feel your photo has been removed unfairly, feel free to ask the question 'why?' in a thread, but don't get too upset.
