About New Mexico Rare Birds
New Mexico's size and location give the state an extremely diverse and unique bird community. Over 523 species of birds have been recorded in the state, the fourth-highest total in the nation. A state checklist is available here: www.nmbirds.org/?page_id=1666
This group is meant to be an informal collection of pictures and videos of state and local rarities. All relevant submissions are welcomed, pending acceptance by an administrator. Members are encouraged to submit their sightings to the NMOS Bird Records Committee (http://www.nmbirds.org/?page_id=11) so that they can be formally evaluated.
Birders planning on traveling to New Mexico should purchase a copy of the New Mexico Bird Finding Guide (http://www.nmbirds.org/?page_id=83) and follow the New Mexico Rare Bird Alert (http://www.nmbirds.org/?page_id=15) and Arizona/New Mexico listserv (http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/AZNM.html).
