About Nikon Digital Learning Center

The Nikon Digital Learning Center Group on Flickr provides practical photography tips, demonstrations from Nikon professionals and industry experts, as well as other useful information as it relates to capturing the shot you really want.

We have two resident pro photographers contributing in this group along with a couple of Nikon technical managers.

Rob Van Petten had every intention of becoming a famous rock guitar player. Somewhere along the way he began taking pictures of rock bands and got more work shooting pictures than playing his guitar. Now Rob shoots fashionable pictures for advertising and editorials. At 12 he borrowed his father’s Nikon and never gave it back. He is convinced that the power of photographs is a force to implement global cultural tolerance.

Rob has won numerous Communications Arts, and Art Directors Club awards. With a shift toward the internet, his website has won the FWA Award, the TINY Award and Yahoo’s Favorite Site. He has been featured in Photo District News, American Photo, Petersen’s Photographic, Studio Photography & Design, and Digital Photo Pro. He has endorsements with several equipment manufacturers including Nikon and Dyna-lite, and Lowepro. He is the Photography Program Director at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University, teaching digital fashion shooting, and a portfolio refinement class. Rob speaks regularly on digital imaging topics for the Mentor Series, at the Photo Plus Expo, Professional Photographers of America, and PMA. Recently his articles have appeared in, Nikon Pro, Kodak Pro Pass and Digital Photo Pro, and Professional Photographer. He has recently begun writing a regular column in Nikon World Magazine.

Steve Simon has been passionate about documenting the beauty and drama of the human condition with Nikons his entire photographic life. The author of four critically acclaimed photography books with works in major museum collections around the world, he has had solo shows in New York, Buenos Aires, Toronto and Montreal and his work has been featured three times at the Visa Pour L’Image Photojournalism Festival in Perpignan, France. He is on the faculty of ICP and SVA in New York and is a contributing photographer for The Digital Journalist. International awards include: Art Director’s Club of New York, The Canadian Newspaper Photographer of The Year, Global Health Council Photography Award for his work on AIDS in Africa, Alfred Eisenstaedt Magazine Photography Award Nomination, PX3 First Place-Books & Portraits. He has lead workshops all over the world, including Mentor Series 2011 in Egypt and Gulf Photo Plus in Dubai as well as Photo Plus Expo in New York. His new book: The Passionate Photographer : 10 Steps Toward Becoming Great (Voices That Matter/ New Riders) will be out in August.
