About Victorian Architecture in NewTown, Colchester

The group has a common interest in the Victorian architecture and architectural features of the buildings of Newtown in Colchester, Essex, England.
The Newtown Estate, built between 1881 and 1890, is a varied mix of Victorian housing ranging from very modest 2 bedroom workers cottages, to the very grand Newtown Lodge, built by the man, who built Newtown, one Mr Goody.
Newtown proper, is the area of Colchester which is bounded by 3 roads, these being namely, Military Road, Magdalen Street and Wimpole Road. There is little of architectural interest or noteworthy points in properties which lie outside this triangle.
For a good overview of our little estate, have a look at Colchester on Google Earth and then look for Military Rd..............
Newtown lies behind it!
