This is really helpful. I was actually wondering if you guys would do this the other day.
It really allows us to view more things at one time rather than having to click "view more 'blank'".
Thanks a lot Flickr!

It's hard to judge, since the new page is too wide for my browser window and doesn't resize gracefully, so I'm getting a horizontal scrollbar and missing a couple of centimetres off the right hand side.
Oh, and unless I decrease the zoom to the point where I find it uncomfortable to read the text, the photo is jammed right up against the left hand side of the window, which looks kind of ugly.

Not good.
Adding photos to sets, groups, adding notes, all sizes now involve more clicks. I preferred them not in a menu. It was fine the way it was.
Tags should be in a list. Far easier to spot if you have missed one.
Where has date posted info gone?
Buggy
Why try and fix something that was not broke in the first place. I cant see any additional functionality that you have introduced and looks completely cosmetic changes.

I love the bigger size!
Can't figure out where the "dimming" background feature is.
I also love seeing the faves under the comments. That makes sense!
Please reconsider the tags, though. I often tell a story in my tags, the list works so much better!
I also have a gripe with the slideshow view, it makes it way to easy for your photos to be stolen. This could cause me to reconsider using flickr!
Also, I wish there was an easy - check box way to delete your membership from groups. I belong to too many.

On the whole I really like it. In particular it seems to fix one of the things I found most annoying about the old photo page: the fact that the set navigation controls were always _all_ open. If you had a photo in more than a couple of set this always looked ugly.
And the larger main photo size is great too.
But please, if you can't make it a liquid width, you really need to make it fit into 1024px window! At the moment if I have a window set to 1024px the page almost, but not quite, fits, so you always get an annoying horizontal scroll bar.

The map location seems to be very important now that it's top right and quite large. I kinda liked the old hierarchy with the thumbs of your stream, then your own sets (now just a txt line) Kinda gave you some context that's not there and also encouraged browsing of other sets.

Nice layout but the larger size does not suit my browser and monitor size. I'm having to scroll down the page just to see my own portrait image fully, unless I want my brower so massive it fills my screen and makes my eyes water.
Is there a function to turn off viewing the larger medium, and large size in 'all sizes'? I don't like the idea that people can do rather large screen grabs of my images. Though I've got downloading disabled on anyone bar me, testing on another account shows all sizes are visible - I'd prefer that we had the option to opt out of of 'all sizes' being viewable.
It feels like we are now given less control over our privacy.
Also the addition of favourites in the comments section seems pointless - it now takes ten times longer to read or even distinguish comments, and it would most definitely deter me from commenting simply because it's gonna take a hell of a lot longer to scroll down an already bloated screen. If this feature must be added, can't it be optional, or clustered together in another area?

in the over all....size matters! photos are big and that is good.
but I also don't like it that the photo is so close to the left, it should have a wider gap from the margin. the composition is a bit off....

Very nice and clean. Over the past six years, the number of tiny option icons above the photos have grown, so it's very nice to see them organised in the drop-menu.
I really like the larger view of the photo itsself, and the whole layout has been de-cluttered. The added map view is a great touch.

I like it. When will it become available for me to use?
I LOVE THE NEW CLICK THROUGH OPTION. the old one was always confusing as to which direction your going in the image galley.
Anytime you can enhance the viewer's image viewing experience it's a huge plus. I'm a photography student of the Academy of Art in San Francisco and I currently use flickr as my online portfolio and a communication tool for my family/friends to observe my growth in school.
Thing's I'd love to see in the future;
It would be so great if we had a little bit more control of how we organize our homepage and it would also be really great if the site looked a little bit more graphically pleasing. I love the tumblr site for the graphic design, but I care a lot about the emphasis on global feedback/exposure, something that's really valuable with flickr. I do realize that not everyone is using it as I am, and that I will eventually move onto establishing a website.

The larger default image size is excellent.
Placing the photo's title under the photo seems unnatural and awkward; it lacks prominence/weight and seems better above the photo. Should still be bolded.
The title/description area seems to bleed into the comments area now, making it hard to distinguish the two areas.
Don't like how the "actions" (Add Note, Add to Gallery, etc.) take two clicks now instead of one. That could be solved by having the menus drop down on hover rather than click.
I sort of miss the larger user icons in the comments section.
The new page as a whole seems too airy, mainly the extra space between comments and sections in the right sidebar.
The consolidated info/views/favorites area in the top-right is nice, but it feels like it should be in a box or outlined like the old set navigation area.
No "this photo has notes" blurb?
Not underlining usernames and links in a photo's description feels weird.
The map is wasted space for those that don't use it.
Listing all the individual Fav's can make the comments section unwieldy if you have a bunch; chopping up actual comments like that isn't the right way to handle it.

probably gonna mess up a few streams of people who only upload 500px wide images!
also, I'm not a fan of the new concentration of the favorites. personally I think it's a little redundant, and would like to see an option to filter that information out if possible, especially on other peoples streams.
not keen on the map... don't use it on any of my pics and neither do many of my contacts, so it's wasted space.
gut reaction good points.

After my initial shock, I started clicking here and there to test it out.
I think my only complaint would be that, while making the taskbar above the photo (Favorite, Actions, Share this) does cause less clutter, now the number of actions to add a note are increased, etc, whereas the button used to be right there. Just thinking about usability.
I did not find that taskbar cluttery at all, for it was above the photo and small.

Also the group list requires a click to open up... I guess as an interface snob I prefer just pressing page down to mousing and clicking. I do miss the buttons above as well - much cleaner now they're in the actions menu/button but they require more mousing and clicking to edit.

Don't like the smaller contact icons and don't like the comments cluttered up with favorites. At least give us the option to remove the favs from the column. I think the whole aspect of favorites is a useless feature anyway. Gives lazy people an excuse not to comment.
Bigger image is good and thanks for letting us kill the map. And yes the title goes under the photo. Finally.....
AND ONE OTHER THING...... Give us the option of either the old page layout or the new. I want to think I get something for my money.

I have to agree with the map points. It should be lower and hideable. Not everyone uses the map.
I still think that the tags should be a list and the licence information higher on the actual photopage.
I also agree with the person who said that the title of the photo should be above the photo.
I also agree with the people who don't like the comments and favourites grouped together. After all many times people have actual discussions via the comments.
I'm saying these simply because apparently at some point this change will be forced upon us all.

I really like the feel and look of your new design!! Its exciting to see a change in that direction. The width of the photo image column seems odd with a vertical shot...it leaves a bunch of gutter and is a bit unbalanced. Can you use the width of the image as a determining factor instead of the height? I awlays thought it was odd that the sizes were determined by max size and not width...the pages all seem to be designed for width, so maybe having the images match the widths (have medium sizes max to width, whether vertical or horizontal) will keep the vertical and horizontal images more consistent. I like the tags running in and the new group indicators as well.
The design is clean and easy to follow...I think maybe even easier than it was too. Excellent work, and very nice to see flikr changing its look a bit.

Its good to have the chance to add the same image to different groups without opening the popup menu all the time group afrer group. Nice improvement!
The photo map is in a good place, for now on i thnik i will tag my photos with locations.
The user avatars (in the comments selection) are smaller now, i liked them bigger and i think it should stay bigger.
The lightbox feature is a huge plus, but the loading times of pictures are disappointing - it should be much faster.
Nice improvements overall, much better than how the layout of Facebook or Youtube can change.. :)

Gut reaction: Awesome. It's about time for a UI update.
One thing I'd like, a way to separate the comments from the favorites. I don't like how the favorites are mixed into the comments. Frankly, I don't care who favs a photo, I just care about their comments. How about a filter to show comments, favorites, or both?
Second, larger images are awesome! Glad you did this, and the lightbox is especially nice!
Third, I'm not sure how I feel about how the tag cluster is truncated. I realize that you're trying to save vertical page real estate, but honestly, a few more lines of tags couldn't hurt. You could even have this as a user option, for instance, have an "Always Show All" feature so that the user doesn't always have to click "Show All" if they prefer to see them all.
Anyway, that's all I can think of. It's great!
...now if you can just change the frontpage Flickr photos, I'll be happy.

Liked easy click on for view on black.
Disliked the map - if you've not put it on map then it should not show - its an irritation - and putting on map is clumsy - Caesar had difficulty finding Snowdon (in Wales in British Isles).
Disliked extra clicks for add to groups and sets.

Love it, have one recommendation though: On the map page the text gives the detail of where the photo was taken (very accurately), the map also does but it's hard to tell because it's so zoomed out. So for example on this photo: www.flickr.com/photos/sparticus/4718167339/ the location in text is Fitzrovia, London (entirely correct) but the map is just some splodge on London, which is entirely useless. Maybe on locations that are well known the default map zoom could be much higher?

Of course, this is a very quick first impression. Will have to play with it a bit before final judgement.

I don't like the way the tags are organised ("...and 7 more tags"). Please have the photo's title placed above the photo, it makes more sense.
I like the Keyboard scrolling functions (which unfortunately is not in line with the navigation above (right hand side, the older and newer function goes in opposite direction of the arrow keys).

The new format has 5 thumbnails in the photo browser and the slide show button is hidden in the actions menu.
It would be better to have 3 thumbnails and the slide show button in the photo browser on the right.
As it is now, how do I turn on the slide show for the stream, the set, or the group?
The functionality of turning on the slide show for the set or group that the photo is in has been lost in this new format.

1. I like the larger picture size, but I dislike how the font size was increased in the "You" menu as accessed from the new photo page. It's too big to read comfortably. While "most" people now have bigger desktop monitors that they did 10 years ago, lots of laptop users still have small screens. I just bought a 13" laptop last month. This is not cool. Please allow an option to decrease the size and font of those dropdown menus so they take less eye movements to read...without having to decrease the font size on my computer as a whole. It's all about cognition.
Edit:
2. I too would prefer to see the favorites and comments separated; just for the cognitive ease of sorting them.
3. I like the map being more prominent in the new version. I geotag all my pictures where practical and it's nice to see the map right up there.

None of my plug-ins (award counter, quick comment, bring comment box up, view all photos by user in group) seem to work. If these are not going to be allowed, you've just ended groups and awards, IMHO.

The one thing I wasn't expecting was to hit the magnifying icon sign to have the page re-load. I was expecting to be able to zoom in from that view. Every element on the page should be draggable to my exact specifications. Excite could do it on their portal in 2001. Why can't your engineers? Are they too old?

gut reaction:
I do like the bigger size of the photo, but that's about it I'm afraid. I can no longer see the properties of a photo (exif data, post-production software used etc.), my camera all of a sudden is called 'Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi' instead of 'Canon EOS 450D', when clicking on a group name, you're not transferred to the group, you have to click again...
Think it needs some more thought/work?
update: after some searching I did manage to find the exif data under the 'actions' drop-down box. hmmm

Mark Payne, well, we'll have to see which of the comments will lead to tweaking of the new photopage, but it does say in the Help section:
When the new page is fully released, it will be the exclusive viewing option for all images on Flickr

I love this new format. Awesome, awesome news, been waiting for this for a long time. Thanks for the changes and I cannot wait to see it become the default.
I still wish there would be an option (maybe for pro users only?) to have a black background by default on the photo page, but this is so much better than it used to be. I've always felt that the photos were way too small by default.
I'm surprised to see some here say they are too big now. I would have liked them even bigger if possible (and no right column next to the photo)!

Absolutely love the new look and increased image size! Very clean and less clutter.
Love the built-in view on black larger size display by simply clicking on the image. Of course it's going to take time for some who have a tough time with change. But this change is definately for the better and I think you did a great job of improving the layout. WORKS FOR ME!!!

hi, first of all, thank you to everyone involved in creating the new photo page. i appreciate all the hard work you put in!
second, things that are bothering me are:
1) the spacing of the page. seems really awkward, at least on my computer (safari on a 15" macbook pro). like someone else said, seems airy. can't quite fit everything on one page.
2) the size of the photo. i'm on the fence about this. when i first joined flickr, i wished that the photos were larger. but now, i have come to really love the small size and my gut reaction is that i really don't like the larger size. the images (at least the square ones on my stream which may default to something a little different than rectangle images) don't seem to fit quite right. they're just a little too big/awkward in my browser---and that's with my browser expanded as big as it can be. i normally view the internet with the browser a bit smaller as it is.
3) probably beating a dead horse, but i would still really love to have that right click feature back. i don't use my flickr account nearly as much as i used to now that i can't conveniently get to the image URL. i may as well use something like photobucket when i want to hotlink images.

What I saw in the preview is too wide, with margins too small. Bigger is not always better. Will this be optionally adjustable?

and I agree with harold.lloyd about the comments and faves... it's a bit confusing and too busy, messy... too much information and not enough space.
I really like how all invitations to a group are now under the description of the photo, it makes things easier, though a bit busier as well...

What happened to ''More Properties". I've learned a lot with that 'click'.

Never mind. I found the view count thing.

I love the lightbox, and the generally wider page. BUT - portrait orientation photos being left justified leaves a huge white space in the middle of the page. They always have, but the wider page, makes it look even worse. Flickr has never seemed to care about photos that are taller than they are wide.
Not convinced by having the title below the photo. I'm sure I'd get used to it, but it seem slike it would look better above the photo level with the text that says "By Skink74".
I agree with comments above that it's too many clicks to do stuff like add to a group. I used a greasemonkey script before so hopefully someone will update it.

I just got used to the old "new" page. I'm not feeling the need to completely revamp the layout, YET AGAIN!
One issue on this newest new page- I don't use the map. I will never use the map. Please tell me I don't have to look at the map on every image in my stream, taking up prime space right beside the image, unless I go through all 8,000 images and click the little X? That's just stupid.
The title belongs on top.

Oh, also, given other good ideas that are suggested from time to time (see Flickr Ideas group), "deck chairs" and "Titanic" come to mind.

I like it, except for the fact that the "Invite this photo to a group" is no longer below the comment box. For an admin who likes to include an invitation as part of an "actual" comment, I can see this quickly becoming irksome.
