About Newbies - Learning Photography

Newbies - Learning Photography. Get yours at bighugelabs.com/flickr

This group is designed to help the new photographer through assignments, informative articles and links, discussions and a general sharing environment. It is recommended that all members try to participate in some of the assignments and discussion topics. Please do not use the group as a personal Portfolio.

Rules:

1. RESPECT other group members...ALWAYS, even if you do not always agree with them.
2. DO NOT USE THE POOL AS A PERSONAL PORTFOLIO... in other words, this is a group about sharing and learning, which requires at least some involvement on the members part. Do not join just to get your images seen on Flickr
3. Post no more than 3 images at a time to the pool
4. The administration reserve the right to remove or ban any member who does not abide by the rules without notice.
5. No NUDES! (baby bottoms are ok) We are a family friendly group. There are plenty of groups on Flickr for those interested in R rated content.
6. Please respect the cultural, political and religious beliefs of all members.
7. To keep the photo pool and membership nice and tidy, if you are INACTIVE in the group for more than 6 Months, administration reserves the right to remove you and your photos from the group. It is best advised that you just leave the group on your own accord.
8. Do NOT start any "New Here" threads. If you would like to introduce yourself please do so in the Introductions thread.
9. Do NOT start a new thread asking people to view your stream. While we believe it is important to receive critique as an artist, it is not fair to hog the spotlight from all the others. We DO have a CRITIQUE MY PHOTO thread that you can seek out help in.

What is?

Portrait photography (also known as portraiture) is the capture by means of photography of the likeness of a person or a small group of people, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The objective is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is the person's face, although the entire body and the background may be included. A portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the camera.

Landscape photography is a genre intended to show different spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic.
While many landscape photographers show little or no human activity in their photos, striving to attain 'pure' unsullied landscapes[1] that are normally devoid of human influence, using instead subjects such as strongly defined landforms, weather, and ambient light. Despite this, there is no pure or absolute definition of what makes a landscape in photography, as such it has become a very broad term, encompassing urban, industrial , macro and Nature photography.

Fine art photography refers to photographs that are created to fulfill the creative vision of the artist. Fine art photography stands in contrast to photojournalism and commercial photography. Photojournalism provides visual support for stories, mainly in the print media. Commercial photography's main focus is to sell a product or service.

Street photography is a type of documentary photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions, and other settings.

Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism (the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that creates images in order to tell a news story. It is now usually understood to refer only to still images, and in some cases to video used in broadcast journalism or for personal use. Photojournalism is distinguished from other close branches of photography (such as documentary photography, street photography or celebrity photography) by the qualities of:
* Timeliness — the images have meaning in the context of a recently published record of events.

* Objectivity — the situation implied by the images is a fair and accurate representation of the events they depict in both content and tone.
* Narrative — the images combine with other news elements to make facts relatable to the viewer or reader on a cultural level.
Like a writer, a Photojournalist is a reporter but he or she must often make decisions instantly and carry photographic equipment, often while exposed to significant obstacles (physical danger, weather, crowds).
