About Neponset River Watershed
The Neponset River Watershed is the area of land that drains water into the Neponset River. The Watershed consists of parts of 14 communities: Boston (Hyde Park, Mattapan, Dorchester), Canton, Dedham, Dover, Foxborough, Medfield, Milton, Norwood, Randolph, Quincy, Sharon, Stoughton, Walpole and Westwood.
The Neponset River starts in Foxborough, by Gillette Stadium, and flows northeast to end at Dorchester Bay/Boston Harbor. You can see the "mouth" (the end) of the river from I-93; the river ends at the painted gas tank at Boston Harbor, between Dorchester and Quincy. The Neponset runs for 30 miles.
The Neponset River Watershed Association ("NepRWA", for short) consists of staff, hundreds of Members, a Board of Directors, Volunteers and Donors who work to protect and restore the Neponset River, its tributaries and surrounding watershed lands through:
- Environmental monitoring, science, research and planning;
- Outreach and education to the general public and targeted audiences;
- Demonstration projects that highlight new and existing best practices;
- On-the-ground cleanup, restoration and preservation projects; and
- Advocacy at the local, state and federal level.
NepRWA recently started this flickr group to share images of the Neponset; we're looking to round up impressions of the river and its watershed (e.g., local streams, ponds, wetlands, the estuary, the uplands, and more) to show more people locally and around Metro Boston the landmarks in the Neponset Watershed and all the good that the watershed has to offer - as well as what we'd like to restore.
Please lend a hand by posting your Neponset pictures here.
