About Norwich & District Photographic Society

Our Society is one of the oldest such organisations in the country. It had its beginnings during the middle years of the 19th century. A number of local people with an interest in the science of photography formed the Norwich Photographic Society in June 1854. There are even reports about its meetings in the archives of the Royal Photographic Society.

The present Society was formed in 1903. A group of photographers from other organisations, and interested individuals met under the guidance of Albert Edward Coe. Since then it has met regularly on Tuesday nights from late August through to early June, commencing at 19:30. Meetings are held in the church rooms at Chapelfield Road Methodist Church, with parking nearby.

The Society is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the East Anglian Federation of Photograhic Societies. This provides us with links to similar clubs and societies and an opportunityto meet other photographers from time to time. The society has also established friendly relations with Foto Club Koblenz in Norwich's twin city.

Through out the year we have 'Photographer Of The Year' competition, it consists of 4 rounds, each with its own theme. The scores from each round are totalled up and the overall winner is given our Challenge Shield to hold for one year and small prize!

In addition to this, we have 2 exhibitions year which are displayed in the Assembly House in September and our large exhibition held normally in the Cathedral in May.
