About Naval Square - Philadelphia Photos of Naval Square, a residential community in South West Center City, Philadelphia. It is situated on the 21 acre grounds of the former US Naval Home, a National Historic Landmark. At various times, it had served as the first home of the US Naval Academy, and as a retirement home for sailors and marines. It has now been converted into residential condos and townhomes. Historic structures such as Biddle Hall and the Governor's and Surgeon General's residences, as well as the parade grounds will be preserved.
