Brag books - Color Inc! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

view profile

. Irene  Pro User  says:

I just ordered my first brag book from Color Inc. WOWOWOWOW!!!!!

I used to get the proofbooks from WHCC, but I am definitely sticking with Color Inc from now on!!

I got a 5x5 album with rounded corners (free option) and a custom front cover. They will also take off the typing on the back of the photos for free if you request. I am pretty sure they do custom back covers too The front and back cover are stiff unlike the soft, cheaper, covers from WHCC. I also like the spiral binding better. And I just think it looks like a better quality product than the WHCC books. Oh - and the pricing is very comparable to WHCC.

Having the ability to design a custom cover is huge IMO. I always hated the plastic covers and cheap binding of WHCC. I also didn't even like the borders. Color Inc also offers books with a small border, but it is just white 1/4 inch.

I ordered mine as a sample for seniors. Here are some quick snapshots. I can't wait to show them off!!!!!

Irene, this looks beautiful. I always custom design my own cover on all the brag books (WHCC) but they will also do a custom cover too -- I just prefer making my own.

So, is this cover their design or did you give them instructions for the custom cover?

I do like those rounded corners too. I might give them a try. Tell us more about the custom covers because WHCC does them too.

I designed the cover myself. I "think" for WHCC, you can, obviously, design the first page to be anything you want, but that is just the first page of the set of the photos. The cover is a clear or translucent plastic cover. Is that right?

For Color Inc, it is a hard cover, almost feeling like a photo mounted on 2mm styrene. Actually, I think that is what it is. My back cover is just basic black but it is also a hard cardboard type cover. I am not sure what the back custom cover would look like, but I am guessing also mounted on 2mm styrene. You can see in the photos, the covers are so rigid that it stand up easily.

Irene, thanks for the explanation. And yes, you're correct about how the covers are with the WHCC ones.

I really like your Color Inc ones too and I'm definitely going to give them a try.

I have one and the only thing I remember was that it was a bit pricey - maybe not too much if being sold as a proof book, but it did seem more expensive than the bound books at white house.

Also, this is the 5x5, right? My only question about that: when I did it I had to purposely choose photos that would fit that crop - and actually most of my photos don't work well that way...were you able to include all the proofs or did you just select a few or what?

I love Color Inc too! I learned about them from Rita at CoffeeShop. I am not a professional, but the prints I have ordered for my home are beautiful! I just ordered the pearl paper and I absolutely love it. Color and BW's are beautiful - they are slightly silvery - lovely! I am definitely going try these books - perfect for grandparents.

I have been super interested in doing prints from a print lab but was discouraged about price. I want to be able to sell prints instead of giving away CD's. But I am scared of loosing money and have a hard time charging people for more than what I paid for...can I go off topic and ask how you guys present images to the client for them to choose prints from? I am just starting out so would like to start out now selling prints...

I just ordered my first Color Inc spiral book and I can't wait to get it! I have been getting WHCC's version, but my studio sample has gone from being flat to being curved/warped in the middle, which is driving me crazy. I am hoping that the stiff front cover on the Color Inc one will prevent that.

Ooh I like this! Thanks for sharing! I have never tried color inc, now I might have to check them out!

@Nicoleio, if you do a search in the old discussions, there are quite a few discussions on that topic that should be very helpful! Like this...

Do a search on 'proofing' or 'proofs'. There is a lot of topics on photog's who choose to do 'in-person' proofing with the client vs. letting them order online. And if you do 'in-person' do they look at a computer with them, or buy proof albums or 4x6's etc to show the client...

Do you still need it? I think I might have it on my external drive here at work. I designed some for my senior reps back in the spring.

ooh that'd be awesome! I'm just so annoyed that color inc. doesn't provide a size guideline - and if they do i cannot find it anywhere!!!!

kristenbethany  Pro User  says:

what kind of guideline are you looking for? like where the binding is going to be or where the rounded corners are? i always thought that the proof books were just bound 4x6 or 5x7's, hence there being no downloadable guides, or maybe i just missed them! i'll look around...
