NASA CoLab Vision: To foster collaborations between NASA and individuals, in support of the space program.
NASA CoLab Mission: To develop and support online and offline communities collaborating with NASA, and to support NASA projects in becoming more collaborative with those outside of NASA.
How does NASA CoLab accomplish its mission?
NASA CoLab leverages individuals' talents by developing and supporting online and offline communities collaborating with NASA via:
1) a virtual collaboration community in Second Life;
2) an offline, collaborative co-working community in San Francisco;
3) online toolset for ad-hoc working groups comprised of NASA and non-NASA people to collaborate with one another (www.NASACoLab.org);
4) online toolset to organize participant-driven conferences (www.NASACoLab.org).
NASA CoLab also works internally within NASA to improve the infrastructure for collaboration. Begun at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) in the San Francisco Bay Area, NASA CoLab has grown to include members from most of the NASA Centers.
