>>Closed Down West Side Candy Factory Damaged By Flames, May 16, 2007
(Chicago, IL) -- Chicago officials are investigating the cause of an early morning blaze at a shuttered West Side candy factory. It was reported at Brach's Candy Plant at Kilpatrick and Race avenues and extinguished around 5:40. The structure was closed in 2004, as part of a phase-out of Brach's Chicago manufacturing operations.

That's so funny... Yvette Fevurly had forwarded me an article from elsewehere about the fire, but the date stamp said oct 19, 2005:

I wasn't sure if it happened before or after we were there. Good thing we covered that place before the firefighters did :)

Holy crap! That's so crazy. (I'm not surprised at all that something like this would happen there, though.)

2004!! Man, that place went downhill FAST!! (Or it was falling apart pretty badly even while open.)
Jyoti sent me the same 2005 link Archie, so I think there must have been two fires.
Mike Chu posted on his site a couple of weeks ago some hint that they plan to blow this factory up for part of a new Batman movie. Hope you Chicago photobloggers are there for the big event!
