About Nami island, Korea

The half-moon shaped island is 4 kilometers in diameter and approximately 400,000 square meters in size. It boasts wide open grassy areas suitable for picnics and recreation surrounded by chestnut and popular trees. For Koreans and international visitors the island is an oasis suitable for leisurely strolls or romantic dates.

Since 1967 the island has been developed as an integrated recreation area and in fact the entire island is natural playground floating on the tranquil waters of the lake created by the dam. As the island is located only 90 minutes from Seoul, over the years it has been used as an off-site training facility for college students and businesses and as a recreation spot for day trippers, family getaways and site for seminars or outdoor field study. Beginning in the 1980s Nami Island became a favorite location for the filming of movies (Choi In-ho’s “Winterreise”) and in 2003 rose to international prominence with the re-broadcast of the Korean television series “Winter Sonata” throughout Asia.
