just use the presets.
if you are shooting a landscape, use the landscape preset
if you are shhoting in low light, use nightmode...

Definitely what Dwight said.
I find that changing all the settings manually really messes up photographs, it's not the best camera software.
One thing I found is not to let the ISO trick you, if you think that by changing the iso to low, you'll just have a slower shutter, but clearer picture. You'd be wrong, it's very strange on the N73, and by changing the ISO you change the brightness of the photo, ie. it uses the same shutter speed and varies the ISO, (or so it seems at least).
Those are the only tips I really have for the camera really. I also reccomend that you shut off the 'flash' whenever possible unless it is critical! :-)

take lots of photos and have fun experimenting. i use thhe close up mode quite a bit but otherwise leave it on auto,
and as above definately turn of the flash wherever possible!
also simple correction of brightness and contrast can make a big difference as there is often quite a bit of "noise", especially if shooting into light.
enjoy!

Hey congrats for the new phone.
I've been using it for a lot of photography.
The most imp tip that i'd like to give u is that dnt mess up with settings.
I use it mostly on the Auto mode. Also, try to keep the sensor lense clean...it really keeps the auto mode sensitive.
Also,if u get the resources,try updating the cell software...helps a lot.

my advice would be to take it back- yes the camera is good, but never have i had such an expensive phone with so much wrong with it!!
Is it just me or is this phone SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not forgetting constant crashing, and the fits it has if you remove the micro sd card...........
In terms of camera settings, make sure you are at the lowest iso- and that flash is off.

@Lifecapture:
I have seen u complaining hangs, lags, crashes, etc of N73, maybe u can try to update your firmware? Because both my friend's N73 and my N73 ME don't have such problem.

Well the specs say it can support 1 gig- unless they are lying surely they wouldnt do that- i knew i should have gotten the sony ericson.
Firmware wont fix my phone- it now cuts out answering calls restarts then locks and wont unlock. Its a sure sign of death i remember having similar problems with an 8310 years ago. I have just bought a 7610 off ebay to tie me over until the n73 is fixed or until i can trade it in. Sad thing is the n73 has a great spec just a shame they cant build it to the normal standard of nokia. For the last 2 weeks i have been using a 3100 an old phone from way back, and that is a quality nokia product- fast simple and good at what it does. Same can be said of the 7610- its a real shame the n73 is so poorly put together.

I hated it.. But the newest firmware fixed EVERYTHING.. and I use a 2gb microsd with no problems.. 4gb is too much though, its a fat32 FS which is too advanced for the n73.. Great phone overall, and just keep the camera in automode... For software go to www.projectsm.org/ .. =) It will be worth your while.

I use auto most of the time and yeah the presets work best but sometimes i like to set things myself and i don't agree that it messes up the picture sometimes you come up with incredible shots.

Indeed, i practised many times and finally found that: just make sure the flash doesn't fire and leave other settings default

i wanna share my experience with n73 camera here. If u wanna take macro with the flash on, u would better to set the ISO setting to Low to avoid over-exposure. One thing i hate is the photo taken with n73 has a bit of redish tint. Other than that, i'm very safisfied with it. Overall, it's a good cameraphone!

Want some killer tips?
help yourself!
inside the office?
-ISO is automatic
-white balance is flourescent
-scene mode is auto
-exposure is -0.5
-flash is off
-other settings? leave it as it is
want to see a faded background?(macro)
-scene mode is close-up mode
-flash is off
-white balance can either be auto, flourescent
or sunny depending on the place where you are
-exposure can be either -0.5 or default
-the rest is set to default
-NOTE:the technique is to put a distance between the phone and the subject about 2 inches apart and press the "capture" button slowly until it saves the image.
this setting only working if your subject is an insect, a flower, etc, it doesnt work with for example a person standing with a mountain, car, fountain(etc)behind him.(i'll be postng some sample pics soon)
warm sunset? -scene mode is auto or landscape
-ISO IS AUTO
-exposure is -0.5
-white balance is sunny or flourescent
-the rest is set to default
OTHER TIPS: the ISO setting is intended for low or gigh light settings, so the lower the light is, the higher the ISO level sould be.
i love my n73.. although i haven't posted any photos yet hahaha.
i'll be posting all of my photos here soon but i've already posted some in my friendster account.
any questions? ask me!
