Just a question regarding the Gzip files you make available. I downloaded all of the modules I wanted (this was before I realised I could download and install from within MySword).
When I tried to open them with jZip (on my lap-top) I was told that the format was not supported.
I got the same response when I tried to open them using ASTRO on my Android device (HTC Legend).
Should I be using any particular zip utility to open the files?

Hi efesus2011,
You can use 7-Zip on your laptop to unzip. We used 7-zip in compressing the modules in GZip format.
In the Android device, you can use AndExplorer as it has a capability to unzip GZip files.

First, THANKS!! I have a review up on my blog: bibleandtech.blogspot.com/2011/05/mysword-bible-app-for-a...
Installation problem.
sing DroidX
1) I see that MySword is not in the Android Market or Amazon Appstore... no problem, but it would be nice...
2) I am using Firefox for Android, but when I went to download the APK, it just brought up the code and would not download/install.
3) I then tried Internet Explorer on Android, and the download worked properly.
--- Something needs to be checked why it doesn't download properly w/ Firefox.
BTW, it really helps to have a QR code rather than entering a URL. I generated one which is posted on my blog, but here is the code if you want to post it on your website: qrcode.kaywa.com/img.php?s=6&d=http%3A%2F%2Fmysword.i...

How do I uninstall modules? The default download added some versions I don't want, and they clog up the screen when I use compare mode.
(corrected spelling error: I want to UNinstall)

Hi mgvh,
Thank you for writing a blog about MySword. You are the first person to write one.
Regarding the items you listed:
1) We are planning to put MySword to the Android Market next month.
2 and 3) I used Firefox in testing only local server installation and heavily used Chrome on local as well as Live website that is why I was not able to catch the APK download problem in Firefox. I never thought there is really a MIME registration issues with our hosting site. But this is now rectified and many thanks for pointing the issue. This also leads to correcting the same problem with modules in gz (GZip) file format when they are downloaded manually.
Thank you also for generating a QR code from us as we are quite busy in adding features to MySword as well as fixing bugs
Regarding the uninstall modules, we do not currently have that feature yet but you can always remove modules manually by simply deleting the desired files in the Selected Modules Path which is /sdcard/mysword by default. The filenames normally use the abbreviation of the module name with the following extensions describing the module type:
1. *.bbl.mybible - Bible
2. *.cmt.mybible - Commentary
3. *.dct.mybible - Dictionary
Any Android File Manager (like ASTRO, AndExplorer, built-in whatever, etc) can be used to locate and delete the file(s).
Regards,
J

Thanks, J! I updated the blog review to reflect your updates.
May I recommend...
One text that is free and should be high on your list of modules to add is the SBL Greek NT. www.sblgnt.com/
This will require figuring out what's needed to get accented Greek characters.
Thanks again.

Hi mgvh,
TheWord actually also have SBL with accented Greek characters from which we can easily migrate a module from. But Android default font do not have these characters because Google tried to reduce the size of the font files due to the small Android devices constraints.
I tried to embed some fonts that support accented characters but that bloated MySword installer. SBL displayed fine including some Greek words in Strong's/Thayer Dictionary. It did not work in Android 2.1 (Eclair) though because of a bug as mentioned in Android forums but it worked in 2.2 (Froyo).
I will try to find a better way of supporting an embedded font that will not make the installer big. Maybe a separate download of the special font for users who needed it. This may be scheduled for MySword version 2.0 Premium version (donation activated feature).
Many thanks.
J

I just found this program and am so excited. I stayed with Windows Mobile far too long just to keep e-Sword. Unfortunately, AT&T will not let me install non-market apps unless I crack my phone, which I do not have the skills to do. So I eagerly await its release on Android Market. I can't wait.

Got it. Thank you so much.
This is by far the best program on the market. It is just a matter of building up resources. I tried converting some TheWord documents like Tischnedorf, Westcott-Hort, Westmnister Leningrad, Greek with Variants, but I get files that are tiny and empty. I don't have the skills to fix things with Notepad++.
I would love to import from e-Sword, which is the program I use. I know TheWord has an import utility from e-Sword.
More importantly, I would love to have Modern King James, which, in my mind, is the best translation available. It is available free on e-Sword.

@ seapapa1
The Notepad++ fix is only needed if the Bible file in TheWord is not in UTF format and there are characters in non-English languages. The Greek/Hebrew files you had mentioned above are already in UTF format.
The Hebrew is not yet fully supported by Android. I have tried WLC and the text is actually displayed from left to right and not right to left. We are waiting for Google to fix this in their future release of Android.
The Greek with accents is not directly supported by the default font of Android but we already had a fix for MySword since version 1.4 but not yet given a user-interface control as we are still testing it and it seems stable though. Currently, this can only be made possible by unzipping a fonts folder into the MySword Modules path in the SD card of your Andoird (normally /sdcard/mysword). If you are interested with this manual installation see the attached fonts file and unzip it.
Can you contact us on the web.
