About Nepenthe: What brings you joy in troubled times?

ne·pen·the
(n-pnth)
n.

1. A drug mentioned in the Odyssey as a remedy for grief.
2. Something that induces forgetfulness of sorrow or eases pain.

After a great personal loss I discovered that the process of grieving was a long one. For a while, I started to believe that I would never recover. Then slowly I discovered moments of joy that made me forget the sorrow, at least for the moment.

This group is dedicated to things that bring you moments of joy despite going through otherwise difficult times. Whether it's playing with children, gardening, feeding the birds, petting your cat or sitting on the beach and watching the sunset, the thing that makes *you* forget your loss, sorrow, or depression at least temporarily and makes your heart sing again. Everyone is welcome because we all experience loss and grief at some point, be it a loved one, a home, a job, health, or something deeply personal that you feel nobody else would understand. Those rebuilding their lives after Katrina and similar disasters are especially invited to join but all are welcome.

Please tag your pictures with the word "nepenthe" and include a short description of what it is in the picture that comforts you, soothes, your soul, brings you joy, or makes your heart sing.
