Ceasefire Progress! Mission Accomplished?

Thank you everyone!

Thank you for for joining MUNDO UNO and doing your part. It is impossible to measure exactly what effect we had in making this ceasefire real, but hopefully it was something, even it was just a few signatures or to provide a bit of hope to someone who had little.

Remember, MUNDO UNO is about stopping ALL wars, so this group is not going anywhere. Though the young ceasefire appears to be holding, we must maintain our clear message of peace.

Thank you all!
John

******************************

Dear Friends,

Last week we delivered the first 200,000 names on our petition to the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, and the US and other governments. On Friday the Council finally responded to global public pressure and passed a resolution demanding a "cessation of hostilities" in the conflict in Lebanon.

This development is a real step forward and a victory for people from all over the world who called for peace. A huge thanks and congratulations to all who signed, forwarded, emailed, and otherwise spread the word—we make a great team!

Have we accomplished our goal? Today the ceasefire is holding in South Lebanon—but it is fragile and could fail at any time—and the broader conflict in the Middle East rages on. The UN's resolution has some flaws, and does not even apply to the closely related conflict in Israel/Palestine, where hundreds of innocent civilians have been killed in over 200 attacks in the last month. So there is much work left to do.

We have many reasons for hope. In just one week our campaign has connected almost 300,000 citizens from over 150 countries who share a commitment to peace and justice. Our aim over the coming days is to make sure that the progress we've helped to achieve together this past week is just the beginning...

With appreciation and hope,

Ricken, Alicia, Priscila, Tom and the whole CeasefireCampaign.org Team.

PS—We've received thousands of emails from you so far, please keep them coming by writing to team@ceasefirecampaign.org with your thoughts and advice. We haven't been able to respond to every email, but we do our best to read each one.
