About Aeroclub Volovelistico del Mugello

L'Aeroclub Volovelistico del Mugello è una associazione sportiva dilettantistica a carattere aeronautico.
La nostra specialità è il volo in aliante, definito "volo a vela". L'aliante è un aeromobile dotato di una aerodinamica molto curata che gli permette di volare senza alcun motore, sfruttando le correnti ascensioali.
Per questo motivo il volo a vela è il volo silenzioso per antonomasia.
Per diffondere questo sport e questo modo di volare, l'Aeroclub Volovelistico del Mugello effettua voli turistici in aliante e ha attiva una scuola di volo certificata Enac per il rilascio del brevetto di pilota di aliante.

The Aeroclub Volovelistico del Mugello was founded in 1990 by a small group of glider pilots willing to have a flying base near home in a potentially very interesting gliding area.
It’s located on the “La Collina” airfield, close to the village of Borgo San Lorenzo, north of the city of Firenze
The airfield is beautifully set in the quiet location of this northern corner of Tuscany, the Mugello valley, between the northern hills of Firenze and the Appennini mountains.
The current number of club members is about 80, and the club’s fleet is composed by four two-seaters and two towplanes. Additionally, about 20 private gliders are resident on the airfield.
The field is an excellent starting point for cross-country flights along the spine of Italy, the Appennini range. Flights exceeding 500km are not uncommon at all, with the longest recorded well above 800 km. Several of our pilots are keen competitors, making the top rankings in national and international gliding competitions.
Our Aeroclub is federated to the Italian National Aeroclub, the Italian Gliding Federation, and holds a national certification for the operation of both the fleet and the school.
