BIFB market stall - ALL DETAILS HERE!

view profile

rosscova says:

We're all but locked in for running a stall at this year's camera market, which will be run as part of the Ballarat International Foto Bienalle in Ballarat on the 11th of September. Here's a map to the market. It's at St Patrick's Hall on Dawson Street South, Ballarat. You can see the place from Sturt Street, which is basically the main street through Ballarat.

- UPDATE -
OK, so for those who want to put things up for sale, you'll have basically 2 options:

1- get your stuff to the market yourself, either by coming along yourself, or arranging with someone who'll be there for them to take it with them.

2- give us your gear and we can transport it to the market for you. This will mean coming along to meet us on Saturday the 10th of September at "the Mess Hall" on Bourke Street from 2pm. Here's a map.

If you can't do either of these things, then sorry, but you won't be selling at this market.
- /UPDATE -

A few things you'll need to arrange for your sale:
- Pricing. Think about a price to set, and make some sort of tag to attach to the item itself, this can also include basic vital details like "meter not working" etc.
- Bargaining room. As part of your price, we'll keep a small sheet with a list of what bargaining room each item has. For example, you may set the tag price at $100, but give the organisers permission to bargain as low as $80. We'll do what we can for you, but it's important for us to know the limits of what you're willing to accept. We may also include important details about your item on this sheet, in case someone wants specific details (any light-leaks, things like that).
- Packaging. If your item will be transported by the organisers, make sure to hand it over in something we can use to keep it in. Everything will be going in a car, and we don't want to have to pile cameras on top of each other for the ride. A small box or a little bubble-wrap should be plenty.
- Pickup for unsold items. Don't forget, if your item doesn't sell, you'll need to get it back from the organisers. We'll work out the details of this later, but it will likely be a second meet, or a specific pick-up time shortly after the market day. If you can't pick the item up yourself, you'll need to arrange for someone else to do it for you, or to pay for postage. We don't plan to hold on to people's things after the market is over.

If you'll be coming to the market yourself, much of these things will apply less to you, since you'll be available on the day to make calls as needed, and take any unsold items away with you.

If you have any questions about this at all, please post below, and we'll hopefully be able to work out the kinks here.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited! :D

Willing to split that up Damo? I've been looking for a 150mm :)

And I agree with Barb, if you set a good price, you've got every chance of it selling.

no, haven't put it up for sale yet... was just thinking about it. I love the camera, but hardly ever use it. I much prefer my mamiya 7 for MF... although, the HB takes beautiful pictures.... It is just a fair bit of cash sitting on the shelf, gathering dust.

Sounds like you should sell the Hassy, and get yourself another lens for the Mamiya. I know the 43mm is pretty sweet!

One thing I love about the market is that you can often walk out at the end of the day having sold some stuff, and bought some stuff. You can get a bunch of new gear without spending a thing. In that way, the term "swap-meet" might be more apt for some people.

@Jock - You need to spend less time arguing about which serial number correlates with which month and year of manufacture and spend more time bargaining.

My funniest moment ever at a market: Jock finds a camera he likes, but knows little about. He asks the owner to see the manual, and starts looking through it. Marcus, watching events unfold, I assume for his own amusement, sees me arrive on the scene and turns to me, "Jock is just absorbing the contents of a camera manual right now, give him a minute".

I almost wet myself.

(Paul has also said he may be able to accept a couple of drop-offs to his house, but this will be very time dependant, and will have to be sorted out between you and Paul. Not a good option, just if you're desperate.)

Hey Ross! I just spoked to iSabra and we'll be there

I just picked up 25 film cameras and 39 lenses from an elderly family friend so this is perfect timing.

All the gear takes up a good sized dinner table, so I'd like to reserve one good sized table :)

Photos of the gear to come!

It would be about a 15 minute walk from Ballarat station.

Maybe you should organise to meet somebody, i'm afraid you may end up in Alice Springs.

Dan - sorry I have been away from computer for a few hours.
Chris posted address above - we planned (look at the start of the thread) to meet there Saturday for any pick ups deliveries kids wanted taken up.

How much stuff do you have? I have the truck available (and serviced would you believe!) but Lea prefers to go in her car which is a tad smaller if there isn't too much to take up to save on fuel Let me know.

Big truck available still though - and we can always take both.
We are leaving from the city to go up to Ballarat though. (Also anything in truck will be locked up that night as well.)
