The subject matter is covered all over the place, but this rant on getting over the technical stuff and just concentrating on your photography for everything it should be, sort of touched a nerve with me.

Matt, nice! On the technical side, how does he arrive at the positive print? Is it because every time the paper is exposed there is a reversal? i.e. negative first, expose again, reverse to positive?

Is it because every time the paper is exposed there is a reversal? i.e. negative first, expose again, reverse to positive? Yes, but not with the same bit of paper. Exposing fix paper does nothing and exposing unfixed paper fades the image out completely. What he's doing is making a negative, then taking a picture of the negative with more negative paper. A negative of a negative will be a positive.
The same concept is used for making slides from negatives, or "prints" of movies.
That said, you can get direct-positive B&W paper; the photo kiosks in the city here use it. The guy who runs them said he used to get it from Agfa but it comes from a Russian company.

DISCONTINUATION NOTICE
March 1, 2012
Due to a steady decrease in sales and customer usage, combined with highly complex product formulation and manufacturing processes, Kodak is discontinuing three EKTACHROME (color reversal) Films:
KODAK PROFESSIONAL EKTACHROME E100G Film
KODAK PROFESSIONAL EKTACHROME E100VS Film
KODAK PROFESSIONAL ELITECHROME Extra Color 100 Film
We estimate that, based on current sales pace, supplies of these films are expected to be available in the market for the next six to nine months; however, inventories may run out before then, depending on demand.
This does not affect KODAK PROFESSIONAL Color Negative Films or KODAK PROFESSIONAL Black and White Films which remain a viable part of the KODAK PROFESSIONAL Film portfolio.
Please note: E-6 Chemicals will also continue to be available.
Lovely.
At least there's this:
This announcement does not impact upon the availability of EASTMAN EKTACHROME 100D 5285 / 7285 for motion picture uses

It's a shame to lose any film. I liked E100G too, but the fact is I haven't shot with it for 18 months and I've always preferred Fuji's chrome. What next, I wonder?

Almost all people who shoot slide are obsessed with Fujichrome,so I think Fuji are in a much better position in regards to E-6.

It also has an extreme S-curve, so everything is about the mid tones.

Well it is a bit weird to have a promo video for a camera showing heaps of nice shots that you only find out by reading the discussion thread are not taken by that camera. It's a good ad for the 5D.

Nice video, why stick the stills all the way at the end? Are they selling a camera or the prospect of shooting a project in the middle of nowhere? Except for the Pichi Richi railway.

No they're all French; I can tell.
(yes I know, and you're numbers are wrong. At the census in 2000, 63.7% of Swiss residents used German as a first language, 20.4% French, 6.5% Italian, 0.5% Romansh, and 9% other)
