About M/S Explorer - A tribute
M/S Explorer was the first Cruise ship to built to navigate the frozen waters of the Antarctic, and on November 23rd 2007 became the first Cruise ship to sink there. After hitting/colliding what is known as Growler, which is I understand a small iceberg or floe big enough to be hazardous to shipping. Well that would be very true wouldn't it?! This alleged growler punched a hole in the side of M/S Explorer about the size of a fist and that then water did the rest. All 154 people got off the ship safely. If you want to know more about the ship then there's plenty at Wikipedia.
The purpose for this group is to share images of "The Little Red Ship" as she was affectionately known. I travelled on M/S Explorer in June 2006 in the arctic region of Svalbard; I had a true lifetime experience and for that I can thank GAP Adventures and of course the Little Red Ship.
Thousands of people have had the priviledge to sail on M/S Explorer so there must be thousands of images out there just waiting and wanting to join this group. Please just add images that actually show the ship in some context.
The ship is/was legendary.
