About:
The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO or "Mister Go") was constructed in the 1960s as a shipping shortcut between New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico. In 2005, MRGO increased the speed, height, and duration of flooding from Hurricane Katrina's storm surge, with deadly consequences. In 2008, Hurricanes Gustav and Ike reminded us of the continuing threat posed by the channel.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has committed to close the channel with a rock dam and a floodwall, but that is not enough. Please visit the MRGO Must Go Action Center to ensure the Corps finishes the job they were assigned by Congress: restoring the wetlands.
