I would like some advice about the best telephoto lens for my canon eos 1000d. im a complete noob. i have the 18-55mm lens kit but its just not got the zoom im lookin for. Obviously i would like an L series lens but simply cannot afford one, i have been looking at lenses in my price range and the sigma 70-300mm dg os lens seems like a good option, does anyone have any experience with this lens? and will it be good enough for motorsport photography? or would another lens be a better ? i would appriciate any advice.

Hi trumpit,

I am a noob as well. Got my first non point & shoot camera last year, a Canon 450D. It came with a Canon EF 75-300 lens and seems to be producing some good results. If you are interested take a look at my sets as I have a mixture of MotoGP, WSBK & BSB shots.

"best lens" is too broad, even "best lens for shooting road racing" is too broad. What's your budget. The Canon EF-S 70-250 will be a lot better for racing, but its only F5.6, so you will need to shoot in the daytime. Its cheap, under $200, so you can use it and them move up to a better lens.
